W.i.P. Wednesday

I have a couple of weeks worth of W.i.P’s (work in progress) to share today.

I am determined to finish my “So Many Stars” quilt by the end of this month.  I was quilting the outside border, way above the speed limit (for me), and this is what happened:

The excess backing and batting got caught underneath and was quilted into the backing.  And that was the second time it happened today!  So, I definitely needed to switch gears and slow down.

I finished Block #3 of The Sugar Block Club BOM.  I am up caught up with that one!

Here are all three so far:

I took a class from Angela at The Granary and made a jelly roll quilt in three hours!  Love the speed and the modern look!  I’ll definitely be making more of these:

I have completed (and photographed) the first block of the Tyler Rose Parade BOM at The Granary.  Other blocks are done, but no pictures yet.

I have almost finished one whole block of hand quilting on my Rabbits Prefer Chocolate quilt.  I’m o.k. with that, actually.  If I can quilt one block per month, I might have it done by next Easter!

I get to make a baby quilt for the daughter of one of my best friends from high school.  I just picked out the fabric and pattern.  It’s going to be a baby boy and the mom wants a green and brown color scheme.  Hey, I just happen to have some green and brown fabric from a Moda collection of years ago – Lilly & Will:

This is the pattern I’m using.  It’s a freebie I found in my box of patterns:

So far, so good right?  Yes, until I found that I don’t have enough of the green and white swirl fabric.  I’m putting this out there just in case anyone has an extra 1/2 yard lying around that they would like to get rid of sell.  Edited 3/27:  I found it thanks to Susie, who left a comment and link for the fabric – thank you!

My deadline to finish the quilt is April 13th.  Yikes!  I have to get cracking!

I can’t believe March is almost gone and Easter is this weekend!  I hope you all have a productive and fun week!

  1. So Sorry I had to just chuckle and snort over your quilting. LOL Okay I have to stop laughing now – all I can say is Welcome to the Club!! I’m making a quilt out Lilly & Will and have run out of fabric too. And I also made a block from the pattern you used for your Tyler Rose Parade BOM using purples and black. Yours is very pretty!

  2. Sheesh! You have a lot going on. I would be really getting stressed right about now. I am in the process of making a quilt for my daughter and son-in-law and need to get that done by the end of April so I’m kinda stressing about that. I sure hope you can find more of that fabric. I love all the colors and patterns you have picked out.

  3. Wow you have a lot going on! I’ve quilted the excess backing and batting in before, very frustrating! I love all the batiks you are using, maybe my next quilt should use some from my stash.

  4. I’ve quilted my excess backing into the quilt before. It’s so frustrating and such a good reminder to slow down. I love your batik quilts as well. I don’t see as many of those around, but they always look so beautiful.

  5. A lovely post with tons of eye candy ; ) hope you get more fabric. Looking forward to seeing your hand quilting project done.
    Happy Easter

  6. Love your progress. I haven’t made much on anything, so am inspired by everyone else. Maybe in a couple weeks, my life will slow down and I can sew.

  7. I was working on the ROW along quilt from Bee in my Bonnet when I ran out of backing fabric on the last row and for one of the borders. I trotted down to joann’s as it came from there back in 1998 when the quilter who gave me the fabrics bought it. I didn’t find the exact fabric but was able to find something very similar. It works. I’m sure you will be able to find something. YOu’ve been busy and sometimes, I work this way as well! One after the other. I’m in a lull right now though.

  8. Yep – Been there, done that, too, with the backing getting tangled up in the quilting. 🙁 I love that baby quilt you’re making. I think green and brown are popular nursery colors for baby boys these days. I made a diaper bag recently with some of those fabrics, and it was striking. I know this quilt will be, too!

  9. Goodness what a lot of work! I love the colours you have chosen for your quilts they will be stunning when they are finished. The baby quilt will be gorgeous for sure, I hope someone is able to help with the fabric.

  10. I hope that someone will help you with the fabrics for the babyquilt!
What bad luck with sewing the back of the quilt, if this mean something for you, it hapened to me too, quite often…I’m so excited to finish, this is the reason why…
    Happy Easter, Julie!
