W.i.P. – Finished block 12!

I just finished block 12 of the Fat Quarter Shops 2012 Designer Mystery BOM!  Woo Hoo!

Block 12 @ The Crafty Quilter

Here’s the whole dozen of them put together:

2012 designer mystery bomI didn’t order the finishing kit for this, but I have enough fabric left over to get creative on my own.  Here are the left overs from just Month 12:

extra fabric 2Have any of you joined the 2013 Designer Mystery BOM?  I recently caved, and joined the club!  I have heard of several people that received their kits already for June.  I’m still waiting for mine.

If you’re on the fence, let me tell you that the patterns are well written and they give you enough fabric to make at least two of each block!  (Or you can make lots of mistakes and not worry about it :-)).  This year’s BOM was designed by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts and features her fabric line, Avalon, for Moda.  It is a row quilt that features basket blocks.  This will be my first row quilt – which is a quilt that is designed by rows that are grouped together by a similar design.

I’m thinking about posting my process for each month’s block for the 2013 BOM and adding any changes I made or helpful hints I’ve found.  Let me know if you join and we can be BOM Buddies!

  1. I was hoping to see how you got creative and finished your quilt without the finishing kit. You see, here it is almost October of 2014 and I am just now getting started on my BOM for 2012. They were gifts to me from my 2 daughters and I didn’t realize that a finishing kit was necessary. You are right about having plenty of fabric left over to even make another block. I’m torn between saving it for finishing, or else making 2 quilts-one for each daughter that gifted me the kits. This is my first BOM project and I am really enjoying it!

  2. I am so sad I missed this! Your quilt blocks are gorgeous. Just out of curiosity, how much did these blocks cost per month?

  3. LOVE what you are making. Joined too!!! Looking forward to starting. YEA! Thanks for showcasing this.

  4. Julie, I signed up for the Mystery Block of the Month this year, too. If you post your progress it would be a great inspiration to me to keep on track! Plus you always have such great hints and tips. Your completed quilt blocks for 2012 are gorgeous. What a pretty quilt and I love those little pinwheels in the corner of that last block – so cute! Beautiful, as always, Julie. Thanks for sharing it.

  5. That is just so beautiful, the colours are wonderful, I would love to join but I think that shipping costs to Cyprus would be prohibitive. I look forward to your emails every week, your tips are so useful, keep up the good work.

  6. I wish I could cave. If I have good garage sale results I am caving! Your blocks are beautiful and what an awesome accomplishment. 🙂

  7. I joined! I received my first block materials on the 13th. ( I signed up back in April so maybe I was earlier on the shipping list) I wanted to jump right in but then it would’ve been completed in a such a short time so I’m savoring the kit a bit before starting. I love the fabrics 🙂

  8. Julie, Wonderful blocks. Looking forward to seeing it put together! I haven’t started on mine yet! Other projects to finish first! I’m on the fence about the 2013 BOM. Maybe reading your posts and comments will inspire me to join!
