In the sewing room and in the garden…

I’ve been busy in the sewing room this week and in the garden!  Things are in full swing in my little world.  In California, the vegetable gardens are at their peak.  Mine is located in the front yard where there’s plenty of sunshine.  If you look closely, Mr. Crafty Quilter is always ready to lend a hand:

Here is a picture of the garden that I took in April – my gosh how it has grown!

We picked tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, beans and basil; and my neighbor brought me some zucchini from her garden:

And dinner that night looked something like this:

There’s nothing like a home grown dinner!  Add some bruschetta and a glass of Chardonnay, and I’m in heaven!  Well, maybe a little dark chocolate afterwards too.

And the sewing room has been busy too.  Here’s a look at my design wall:

This is going to be a Wedding Ring quilt and the pattern is called Metro Rings from Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I sneak into my sewing room a couple of times a day just to look at the design wall!  I love it!

I am also adding the binding to a queen-size quilt that belongs to my neighbor.  Her mother pieced and quilted it, but passed away before she could finish it.  I’m honored to contribute a tiny bit to it’s beauty:

And I’m busy getting ready for the Christmas in July Blog Hop that starts TOMORROW!  I can’t wait to share what the participants have been making for you!

See you with a Ho Ho Ho tomorrow!

  1. Hi Julie, I’ a bit late with my response this time, just catching up with your lovely projects now! Love the wedding ring quilt in progress. Your kitchen garden produce just looks delicious….I’m away too much this summer to grow anything but flowers, and really miss my tomato plants!

  2. Julie indeed an honor to finish someone so “sacred” to another family. It’s lovely. Also, I’m partial to wedding ring quilts as the first one I ever bought had that pattern Waaaaaaay back in my twenties. I put it on my striped sofa of my first place. Still cherish it, even though it was store bought! BTW the blog hop is so fun, thanks for hosting!

  3. That DWR quilt is stunning?! Do I spy the makings of an entry for the NYC MOD quild’s challenge this December?? 😉 I’ve got my design all sketched out and now am just waiting on some fabric before I can get started… can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Looks like you’re off to a fantastic start!

  4. Wow! That ocean waves quilt is gorgeous. I wouldn’t mind helping someone with that binding. Pretty to see, and such a poignant finish to facilitate. And I’d be sneaking in for peeks at the Metro Rings, too. ;D P.S. Your garden looks fantastic! I’m seriously looking forward to putting one in next year.

  5. Love, love those projects, your blocks and that blue quilt are fabulous!
I`ve never tried wedding ring pattern,It looks a little tricky for me , I don´t like to sew curves but love this block.
    Have a fun weekend!

  6. Another beautiful post! I’m in awe of your double wedding ring. I had a lady make the top for me when she was 89. She is now 90. I paid a professional to quilt it for me and it is absolutely beautiful. I have the binding cut, but not sewn.

You are an angel to finish the quilt for your neighbor. As we know, quilters are givers.

I can hardly wait for all the Christmas ideas.

  7. So many things here in one posting. Love your raised garden and the wonderful vegetables. Your wedding ring block is awesome! It will be a beautiful quilt. The Storm at Sea quilt is so nice and how nice to complete it for someone!

  8. Wow! that is some bounty from your garden! What a fantastic summer pleasure. How generous of you to put the binding on the quilt for your neighbor. I am sure that she will cherish it. Your wedding ring quilt is great too- the blues and browns are really pretty together!

Thank you so much for sharing at Needle and Thread Thursday!
