Quilting and Gardening = Bliss

I love to garden and I love to quilt (and not necessarily in that order!) so when a local nursery puts on a quilt show it is sheer BLISS!

This past weekend I visited Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, CA, for Quilting in the Garden 2013!  They do a great job of bringing nature and quilting together.  And I got to visit with Alex Anderson, who is a quilting “hero” of mine, and a Northern California gal too!

Quilting in the GardenThe weather was perfect, the flowers were beautiful and the quilts were spectacular!  I hope you don’t mind a few pictures.  Enjoy!

One of the featured artists was Sandy Klop of American Jane Patterns.  The quilt below is one of my favorite designs of hers, Birds and Boughs.

  1. Julie, I just have to comment again, I keep coming back to “pretend” I am walking through lol! These quilts are stunning, where’s yours young lady??? Is this an annual thing? (no pun intended!)We may head to the west coast next summer for vacation I’d love to see some quilt action! You really did a great job with those pictures, I love to see them hanging!

  2. What a beautiful venue for a quilt show. I love how the quilts hang naturally on a line held by clothespins gently blowing in the breeze. Wish we could have a quilt show at a nursery in Michigan. I very much enjoyed all the bright and colorful quilts.

  5. I wa there that very same day…in fact, I am the pink shirt, silver ponytailed, backside in the pic with the vegetables sign. lol. it was a great little show even though I had to dodge a few fallin acorns

  7. Wasn’t that the best show! Beautiful venue and beautiful quilts. It was my 1st time attending and I will go again next year.
    Oh….and imagine my surprise as I was scrolling through your pictures and looking at all the lovelies and come upon the picture with the “veggie” sign and…I see the back of my friend Regena and I! Ha! I’m the one with the dark hair. Too funny!

  8. Oh I’m so envious of all who were able to visit that fantastic and inspirational show in such a beautiful setting! Great pictures, thanks Julie……..is that show always the first weekend in October? I would really like to fit that into an autumn CA trip next year!

  9. I went to there on Sunday and it was spectacular, as usual. Alex is always so friendly. She is one of my quilting heroes, too!

  10. Julie, Your photos are wonderful. My son lives in Livermore so I attend this
    Quilt Show every year. I went Saturday and the weather was just right.
    The quilts this year were fantastic. The nursery is a perfect setting.
