WIP Wednesday

I’m starting the year off with a finished UFO (is than an oxymoron?)  This is my jelly roll race quilt that I started in a class last year.  It’s been basted and waiting to be quilted for six months!

jelly roll finished front copyI’m beginning to like the phrase “finished is better than perfect”.  For this quilt, I stitched a wave pattern in the center of each strip.  I like the effect.  It only took me two hours to quilt it!  It still needs binding, and that’s going down later today.

jelly roll finished side copyI think this quilt will be perfect for a beach house, which is exactly what I made it for.  No, not my beach house.  It’s a gift for my hairdresser who has a second home in Pacific Grove (lucky girl).  I used a Bali Pop (precut 2 1/2″ strips of batiks) and a few of my own strips.

I also finished blocks 6 and 7 of the Fat Quarter Shop’s 2013 Designer Mystery BOM.  I really like the way these are going together.

There aren’t any real tricks to putting these together except for the usual careful cutting, piecing and pressing.

Here’s what they look like so far…

I’ll be back soon with a new series called “Let’s Talk”.  Get ready for some inspiring conversations!

  9. Love those colors in your jelly roll race quilt, Julie! I’ve thougth about doing one of these myself. Since I have completed only 1 of the Mystery Blocks of the Month from last year’s Fat Quarter Shop, I can now see what they will look like by checking out your blog! Very pretty. You always make such beautiful, crisp corners. One of these days I’m going to get my sewing room organized. Yours is a real inspiration!

  10. Love that jelly roll race! I am cutting up pieces into 2 1/2 strips from stash and most yard or better pieces of fabric I buy. When I have enough in one color palette that I like-I am racing away!

  11. I have just joined your blog. I will be very interested to see how you quilt the FQS 2013 Designer Mystery BOM, since every block is different. I have a sampler quilt and I cannot begin to decide how it should be quilted.

    Thanks
