My Happy House Mug Rug Tutorial at Benartex!

I am over at the Benartex blog today, Sew in Love {with fabric}, sharing a new tutorial for their Mug Rug Blog Hop!  You can find the tutorial here.  Make sure you visit them for a chance to win a fat quarter bundle of fabric!

Happy House Mug Rug Tutorial by The Crafty Quilter for BenartexI had a blast making this little Happy House Mug Rug and it sews up really fast!  It measures 6 1/2″ x 9 1/2″, so it’s big enough for a teapot, too, (or lots of cookies)!

Happy House Mug Rug Tutorial by The Crafty Quilter for BenartexI used the Sweet Tweet fabric line from Benartex and it’s bright and cheerful.  This would be perfect for the little princess in your life or your best friend.

If you like bright and whimsical fabric, you’ll love this project!  I got my inspiration from the birdhouse fabric in this collection:

BIRDHOUSE FABRICIsn’t that the cutest house? I love the pink scallop fabric for the roof and it makes perfect quilting guidelines, too!

Happy House Mug Rug Tutorial by The Crafty Quilter for BenartexWith all of that color, I needed to bring out my brightest mugs and a few polka dots too!

Happy House Mug Rug Tutorial by The Crafty Quilter for BenartexSince Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I thought I would try a house with a heart inside.  This is how my first attempt turned out:

Birdhouse Block @ The Crafty QuilterI know, it looks like a bird face (which is not what I was going for)!  So, I’m back to the drawing board and this time with a softer fabric line.

Do you recognize the fabric “Ruby”, by Bonnie & Camille?  I’ve had this fat quarter bundle staring at me for over a year!  I finally broke into it.

So, I’m making a new tutorial using a house block as the base for a Valentine pillow!  I can’t wait to show you!

Thanks for visiting today!

  1. you can find the tutorial at the top where it says to click here in the blue link. It will take you to a page that has the info. It shows fabric amounts, cuts and full instructions.

I am a beginner quilter and found this info.

  2. I love the house mug rug…I have been all over the internet trying to find the fabric..Sweet Tweet but can’t find one store that has it. Any suggestions…also did you use a charm pack or did you use fabrics from your stash. I am new to this craft and like to buy packets/kits that have all the fabrics that go with a project. Thanks

  3. After six pictures of the mug rug I would like to know how much you were paid by Benartex for their publicity. Would have been nice to receive instructions to construct the item. And Benartex would have made money on the deal. I thought this site was to assist quilters to grow and spread this craft. Please Take my email off of your mailing list. I do not support sites that are pure commericals.

    1. while i am new to this site, i certainly appreciate the “free” posts of items to be made. and all the information that is given. it takes alot of time to put a blog together. and after all, nothing is for nothing in this world of ours. however, how rude of faye levine to post the message that she did. it’s probably just as well you want your name off the email list. i dont think anything would have made you happy with this website. hope you find happiness somewhere else.

  4. Oh – I love this little mug rug- I am a “house” quilter and sewer – I can’t seem to find the tutorial. Thanks for all you give to us!!!

  5. Love the way you used the house print as inspiration for this adorable mug rug. I also love that block with the heart on it, and I’m sure you could erase the bird-face association with a bit of embellishment…applique or a touch of embroidery. All is not lost! Can’t wait to see that Ruby project, too!!!
