W.i.P. Wednesday

It’s been a whole week since I’ve blogged and I have missed you guys!  Lots of stuff going on in the classroom and in the sewing room!  I’ve been teaching a lot lately, and that is always fun!

Here’s what I’ve been up to in my sewing room:

I finished my Summer Stars block by adding the corner triangles.  I think I’m going to stop right here and turn it into a table topper.  I don’t want any more UFO’s!

This is really a striking block and someday I will fill up a whole quilt with them.  The pattern is called Summer Stars by Anka’s Treasures.

I finished the March block of the Classic Meets Modern QAL at Sew at Home Mummy.

At first I wasn’t so thrilled about the curved piecing.  However, it wasn’t so hard and I LOVE how cute this block is!  This is a Drunkard’s Path block and I think it looks like a little drunken sunshine!

I’ve been doing some sketching….

My Sketch by Julie CefaluI’ve wanted to do a 9-patch/snowball quilt for a long time and I thought I should start with a sketch so I could come up with some color combos.  I was thinking about a black and white quilt with splashes of color and it lead me to this layout.  What do you think?

I’m sure I don’t have time to start a new project, but it’s just so… you know!  Enticing.  Didn’t I just say that I don’t want any more UFO’s?  I’m so good at starting new projects; I just need a twin to finish them all for me!

Would you like to see what’s on my kitchen table for the month of March?  I knew you would!

March Table Topper @ The Crafty QuilterI made this as a shop sample several years ago.  I used a charm pack of Authentic by Sweetwater for Moda and the pattern is from the book, On the Run, by Anka’s Treasures.

I can give you a sneak peak at a few other projects that I’ve submitted as samples for a couple of workshops that I may {or may not} be teaching (I still haven’t heard back)…

Modern Wedding Ring Sneak Peak copyI love those colors!  And that’s Freesia blooming in the background.

And this little applique project…

Monogram sneak peak copyIf I don’t teach it in a workshop, I’ll be making a pattern for it and maybe even an online workshop.  Who knows?  I’ll give you the full pictures and information when I hear back!

Thanks for visiting today, and make sure to come back on Sunday.  There’s going to be lots to share with you that I’m Sew Thankful for!

I’m linking up with Freshly Pieced and Sew Much Ado and Let’s Bee Social.

  1. Julie,
Do you do your own quilting? Or send it out? If you do your own, is there any place in particular that your get your patterns designs from? Anne

  2. I enjoyed seeing all your projects, especially the modern drunkards path block and the March table topper. I am very curious about your sneak peak of the wedding ring blocks– I’ve been admiring that block and wondering about attempting a quilt with it some day.

  3. I guess I am a sucker for punishment! The first quilt I ever made was a Quilt in a Day log cabin quilt and from there I made a fish quilt that used the drunkards path block to make the fish. I didn’t know curved piecing was supposed to be hard so I just did it and didn’t think twice about it! I also knit socks as my first knitting project! I guess I am glad I don’t know what you are supposed to start with when learning a new craft! I just jump right in and do what speaks to me!

  4. I really like the table topper for showing the green. And I like the quilt layout so much I would like try it. I won’t, but it sure sounded good. I hope you go ahead and do this. I’m anxious to see it, those colors will really pop.

  5. What a post! So filled with quilty goodness and some sneak peeks! Love the addition of those Sunnyside corners to your block. Glad to hear you enjoyed the curved piecing. Your drunken sun is beautiful! Thanks for sharing all this fabulousness!

  6. I’ve never been crazy about the Drunkards Path pattern, but I absolutely love your version!! It really does look like a happy little sun and I think I will step way out of my comfort zone and try the curved piecing just so I can make this for a table topper,
I really like your sketch of the nine patch/snowball quilt – I think it would be very striking in the color way you’ve chosen! I look forward to seeing the finished quilt!!

  7. This was a terrific post! I love all your projects and color choices. And I can just smell those beautiful freesias!

So much beauty in one post!

  12. Wow, everything is so impressive. I was just thinking today that I want to sew some circles. I was thinking of going about it as you have in your Modern Drunkards Path block. Your execution is perfect. Incredible work! You’re inspiring me to give it a try. I hope curves aren’t as scary as the seem.

  13. Your drunken sun looks really great! I love that background fabric you used, it’s so fun.

The sketched out quilt looks great – love the idea and the blend of colour down through the rainbow.

  14. Hi Julie,

I think this is the first time I’ve ever commented on a post of yours, but I couldn’t help myself this time! I think it is the colors. Orange being my favorite in the whole world. These are amazing, every one of them. Can you come to my house and teach a class of one?….ME!

    xo Linda

  15. Wow, I don’t even know where to start… so I’ll start at the top and work my way down.
Love the Summer Star block. I’m a big fan of Kate Spain, so I totally approve of your fabric choices. 🙂
I also love the fabric choices for the QAL block. It really does look like drunken sunshine.
I really like the quilt design you drew, I love black and white with splashes of color.
    That table runner is amazing.
Is that a pickle dish pattern? Again, love the colors you chose.
The applique project looks great and I’d love to see the whole thing.

  16. I just love your table topper with the blue and green Sweetwater fabric! Perfect colors, and I love the “shamrock-like” shapes in the corners.
Love your sneak peeks, too. Especially the white, blues and gray!
    Just beautiful inspiration to see!
