What’s New

Hey everyone!  I thought I would check in and tell you what’s new (and old) in my quilting world.  I’d also like to welcome the new followers to my blog!  Thank you for allowing me to take up a small part of your creative life.

I’ve been catching up on my block of the month projects.  The first one is the Classic Meets Modern Quilt Along at Sew At Home Mummy.  This month’s block was a dresden plate and I happen to love this one:

I couldn’t help myself with the splash of green.  I didn’t want it to look too Christmas-like, but I wanted to throw in a complimentary color.  I can see that I’m going to have to cut away the background fabric underneath the center circle.  It’s shadowing through.

The next block is #11 of the Fat Quarter Shop’s Designer Mystery BOM.  One more to go!

And I finished the center basket block of El’s Kitchen BOM that I’m co-teaching at The Granary.

This is such a happy block!  I love the orange gingham and the appliqued flowers.

And I made another card; this one went to my daughter along with a little package of goodies.

This is cherry season in Northern California, and I’m picking up a bunch today from our farmer friends in Brentwood.  My absolute favorite fruit!

If you missed my post on Sewing Machine Recommendations, you can still chime in with your thoughts.  The more sharing of information and experiences, the better!  I appreciate everyone’s contribution to that discussion so far, and I’ll be doing a wrap up post next week with more thoughts and a recap.

The last bit of news I have to share with you is my new role as the Vice President/Secretary of the Silicon Valley Modern Quilt Guild!  This is a brand new guild and our first meeting is June 26th at 6:30 p.m. at The Intrepid Thread.  If you live in the area (San Jose/Sunnyvale/ Milpitas) and want to find out what we’re all about, please join us!  We will be a part of the larger Modern Quilt Guild which has a huge bandwidth.

That’s the news for now.  Thanks for stopping by!

Julie

  3. Hi Julie
I’m so late with my comment this time (been busy sewing a tote bag and matching purse for my sister -in-law’s birthday, but have enjoyed seeing all your projects. You’ll have so many quilt tops when you finish all your different blocks. I love them all!
Congratulations on your appointment in the Modern Quilting Society, they are lucky to have you! I’m sure it will be fun.
Now I must add some comments to the sewing machine page! Again I’m very late, time just flies! I returned from a trip to Scotland a week ago and come Wednesday take to the skies again…..in your direction…..yes Sunnyvale again, just for two weeks but I’m excited about that. Hope to see you:-)

  4. I have been trying to do the center basket, I am having an awful time getting those triangles in properly, I have been working on a Latte Quilt, which has this basket. I have tried sewing them by machine, but these triangles were way off, tried basting them together, I almost had them meeting correctly, like I said almost. I put it aside, as I tore them apart so many times they were unuseable. I am now in the making of cutting more triangles out. Do you have any tips for me . I would really like to complete this block, so I can move on to the rest of the blocks that I need to finish. I would be most appreciative in all the advice you can give.

  5. thank you for sharing. May the good Lord continue to give you ideas and you share them with us.

  6. OMGosh – that orange gingham block has to be the cutest block ever! It appeals to the old-fashioned side of me that loved quilts from the 30’s first…but there’s something distinctly modern about it, too. Charming!

  7. I love the Dresden Plate block, Julie! But I gotta tell ‘ya, adding the green did NOT keep it from looking Christmassy….lol. It just added to it. I could see a whole quilt in those fabrics and that pattern. Just lovely. The others are very cool, too, but that’s my favorite.
