Hello 2015

Hello 2015.  Sometimes I don’t know where to start when I’m blogging, especially after I’ve been absent for a while.  I’m already so far behind this year – I feel like today is the first day of 2015 and it’s already January 7.  I haven’t even put away the Christmas decorations yet; or published the first Sew Thankful Sunday post for January; or started my online class “Move More Eat Well” which began January 1.

But that’s o.k.  I have done one thing today that I’m happy about.  I’ve picked my ONE WORD for the year.  Do any of you do that?  Pick a word to focus on for the whole year?

OneWord

My word for 2015 is SIMPLIFY.

simplifyword

I had a hard time narrowing it down to just one word.  A few of my goals for the year are to become more organized and to create more balance in my life.  I think if I focus on simplicity, it will guide me to both of those.  I don’t want to feel like I’m drowning in guilt, overcommitment, and too much stuff.  I’m still going to do what I love and that means blogging and quilting and teaching.  I’m just going to tone it down a little; bring my life into balance. Hmmm, it sounds good already.

That’s it for now.  {‘m keeping it simple}.

  1. When you first posted this couldn’t think of a word at all. So I browsed the list (the huge list) of suggestions and decided on one. Naturally I put off commenting and, as could be expected, forgot what I chose. I just browsed the list again and figured out what it was. Balance.

  2. I’m so with you on this one, Julie. I have no place to stuff one more piece of fabric or spool of thread! I will be working on scrap quilts, kits and collections I have purchased. Deep breath….Simplify. Thanks for all you do and happy new year.

  3. Simplify has been my word for at least four years now. A friend stitched the word on a tea towel that I have hanging in my studio where I can see it every day. It’s changed my life — I’ve been able to get rid of “stuff” and clear out spaces, and discontinue doing so many things in my life that I don’t want to do anymore — and I’ll keep it as my word for 2015.

  4. Happy New Year your not alone I just put the tree stand away tonight myself and I’m trying to pull out all my quilting that got put away during the holidays. I never heard of the one word movement before what an awesome idea, my word is “strength” I need the strength to help me over come some medical issues and to give me more time to enjoy life. So let’s all share and encourage each other this year, maybe I should change my word to encouragement

  5. Yes Julie I do it too, I think it’s way better than resolutions which I find defeating entirely!! I kinda have had a word for several years at least in the back of my mind, a plan. Last year I did OLW=OneLittleWord with Aly Edwards and this year I have a word but I am integrating it with Documented Faith (group on FB) My word this year is FINISH. Amazing how just reading the definition of a word can jumpstart things. So cool that you are doing it too!

  6. I picked downsize–weight, amount of food eat between meals, fabric, yarn, thread, etc
I pick a word each year.
Simplify is a good word. I could have used that one also, but I think I have used it already. I need to look back and see.
    Best of luck.

  7. What a great word. SIMPLIFY !!! I was going to use “finish”, but think I will change it to “simplify”. I think it has less quilt associated with it. We put way too much pressure on ourselves.
    Enjoy your day.

  8. My word for the year is ‘Joy’. The last few years have been challenging and I need an attitude change. I hope to nurture a joyful spirit within myself to such a degree that I will be contagious to those around me. Good thing that I have an entire year to work on this! 🙂

  9. My word is Breathe. We all need to take time to rest and just breathe. Sometimes Life gets in the way to take time to relax.

  10. Simplicity is a great word and a good goal. I keep myself in check by rarely going out to busy shops etc because I don’t ‘need’ anything.
    Happy new year and enjoy

  11. You got me thinking on this one Julie… Great idea… I’ll get back to you when I come up with the ONE word

  12. I’ve never heard anyone speak of a ‘one word’ goal for the year – but, if I had to pick one word, for me… it’d be “REDUCE”! I have way too much ‘stuff’ and I know people who would be happy to have it. I just have to ‘do it’… 🙂
