WIP’s and UFO’s oh my!

WIP’s and UFO’s oh my!  January seems like a good time to get a handle on some of those long forgotten projects, and it’s always fun to show you what I’ve been working on.

I’ve finished block #2 of the Sew Sweet Simplicity BOM hosted by Jacquelynne Steves.  These blocks are so much fun to make AND I’m using up my Bonnie & Camille stash at the same time!

When I saw this Simple heart quilt tutorial by Allison Harris at Cluck Cluck Sew, I dropped everything else I had planned and started pulling fabric from my stash.  I LOVE how darn cute this is!

I used a charm pack (5″ squares) of Pirouette by Verna Mosquera for Free Spirit Fabrics.  It’s romantically perfect!

Speaking of stash, have you heard of the Sew My Stash 2015 Challenge at Project: Leasa?  It’s highly motivating and it feels so good to use what I already have (to make room for what I don’t need future purchases).  This weekend she has issued the first challenge and it’s a Valentine’s Day theme.  How perfect is that?  You can find more information and ideas for projects at Weekend Challenge 1.

I’ve been playing with hexagons and English paper piecing; they’re utterly addicting.  I don’t know what I’ll make with them, but I’m sure it will be something sweet.  Another scrap buster, too.

How’s your list of UFO’s going?  Do you even have a list?  I’m starting one today, and I’m going to hook up with the folks at All People Quilt and begin their 2015 UFO challenge.  All you need to do is make a numbered list of 12 projects you want to finish in 2015 (it doesn’t have to be quilting). At the beginning of each month, they’ll pick a number and that’s the one you have to finish for that month.  Here’s a picture of my list:

The magic number for January is 4.  On my list, that’s the Classic Meets Modern QAL from 2014 at Sew at Home Mummy.  I have 9 blocks completed, so I need to finish 3 more AND baste, quilt and bind it!  When I’m done, I’ll have my first rainbow quilt.

I DO have a finish to show you.  I wanted a quick and easy project after the holidays.  I made three zipper pouches using the pattern, Bridget’s Bagettes from Atkinson’s Designs.  It took me three hours to complete all three.  It’s a great pattern!

The clear vinyl wasn’t so bad to work with once we became friends. There are three different pouch sizes: small, medium and large.  The large pouch is just the right size to hold my rotary cutter:

The fabric I used is Dreamin’ Vintage by Jeni Baker for Art Gallery Fabrics.  I have the fat quarter collection and I love it!  I think I have enough to make a thousand pouches (more or less)!

I have one more finished project, but you only get a sneak peak of an upcoming tutorial:

I’ll be back on Friday with a Burlap & Canvas Hearts tutorial.  See you soon!

  6. hi! I love what you’re doing with the Jaquelynne Steves block. I signed up, pretty late I admit, and never got the patterns in my email. Since I’m already feeling behind, that’s alright, but I do think the blocks are pretty. And those hearts are darling. I’ve got to work on my sewing speed! You get so much done!

  9. Hi Julie, looks like you’d been pretty busy this month. Good idea to make a list of priorities for finishing up projects or it’s easy to get sidetracked onto new ones which turn up to tempt us in a new season! For example the little zipper pouches which I must check out 🙂
Thanks for sharing your projects……as usual, all beautifully put together, both the colours and workmanship. I arrived in sunny CA yesterday and it was great to have time to check out your blog this morning:-)
