Thank you to everyone who commented on that blog post.  I haven’t responded to you all, but I have read EVERY comment and I appreciate all of your lovely thoughts.

Here is what’s been happening in my sewing room life:

My latest tips & tricks video for The Quilt Show was released on Monday and it’s all about getting that perfect, scant 1/4″ seam allowance.  One of the first blog posts I ever did was How to Obtain a Perfect 1/4″ Seam Allowance.  I use the exact same technique today, and I teach it in my beginning quilt classes.  It works every time!

You all know that I love my dog, Cooper.  He is one of those dogs that has a funny, mischievous personality.  If he’s in a playful mood, we have to keep an eye on him.  Shoes have a way of disappearing….

One day last week, my daughter asked me if it was o.k. if Cooper was chewing some white, fluffy material.  Ummm, NO!  That would not be o.k.  This was going to be the batting for a baby quilt.

Now, it’s going to be the batting for some practice quilt sandwiches and maybe a wall hanging or some mini quilts.   As they say, whey life gives you lemons… make lemonade!

I received some happy mail yesterday.  I’m going to be playing with this fabric from Blank Quilting. This will be my big project for the month of July.  I’ll give you more details later in the summer.

I’m still working on my Christmas in July project for Fort Worth Fabric Studio.  I hope to have it finished by the end of June.  Yikes!  That’s just a week away!

I’m also working on a little project for next year.  It will be exclusively for my blog readers, and I’m really excited about it and a little nervous at the same time.  It’s actually a big project and it’s going to take a lot of thought and energy on my part.  For now, I can show you this little block that is being tested out for it.

When I get up the courage, I’ll write a separate blog post about my project and my plans for next year.  Until then, it’s back to the sewing room (and the graph paper/sketch pad).

Have a perfectly happy day!

Julie

  4. Hi Julie
All your forthcoming projects look exciting……I’ll look forward to following them. I haven’t had time to sew at all for the last month or so, and never cease to be amazed by your production tempo your baby quilt is beautiful, and Cooper approves too I think! Not long now til you have a little one to give it to. We are expecting our Sunnyvalers to arrive here on Sunday for a two week holiday, which is exciting. Have a great weekend!

  5. What a sweet dog face! Having had spools of thread, fabric, batting, pincushions, and yes, even scissors chewed by one puppy or another, I can relate. Julie, your work is so precise and professional. You are an inspiration in that even though you clearly do meticulous work, you make projects/ new skills seem accessible to all of us. Thank you for what you do!

  6. Julie, your creative energies are just flowing! I am always so amazed (and inspired) by how much you accomplish! I’m going to jump right up and get back to work! XO

  7. I can relate to Cooper in soo many ways. My Biscuit, yes the shelter named her, and I live in Deep South so it stuck. She is 3 yrs now, but I got her at 3 months. She is a Jack Russell/Beagle mix. Needless to say I had to watch her as she was teething and when I was sewing and heard her growing and shaking something I knew something was wet and soggy. When I would try to take it away, the race was on. Thank goodness for barriers. I think I redid several blocks for a raffle quilt for my guild. Needless to say I am glad it was a scrappy quilt and I never will run out of scraps. She now lays calmly under my sewing table and occasionally has the yen for fabric but will drop it for me now. Good dog!

  8. Really? Cooper did that to your batting, would that sweet face do something like that? On another point, your Christmas in July is looking very lovely.

  9. I wonder what Cooper is thinking staring at the batting?! Oh boy, thanks Julie for the little tease about your upcoming project for the blog. I love the block you’ve shown…this should be exciting & I know you won’t disappoint us!

  10. Evening Julie, Cooper is a sweetheart, I could tell by that expression he never do anything like that. I’m anxious to see the finished Christmas quilt and the new fabric is a beautiful mix of colors. I watched your video and as I’m sewing more quilts now I will try the tape if I can find it here. I’m sure they will have something similar. I’m looking forward to the two new vidieos coming out this month too. Enjoy the rest of your day
    Blessings

  11. I had to comment on how Cooper looks angelic on the beautiful baby quilt, but the evidence proves otherwise. Why would they like a mouthful of fluff? All of your fabric looks luscious.

  12. I had to laugh at what Cooper did! I have cats. I have to be careful with my straight pins. I can’t leave them unattended or they get stolen. Love the fabrics.
