Thanksgiving happenings

Today is a busy day of preparation at the Cefalu house.  We will be hosting Thanksgiving for our family, so today I try to get as much prep work done as possible.  Pies are baking, cranberry sauce is made and last minute shopping is done.

We have our daughter, her husband and grandbaby Amelia staying with us all week – we love having a baby in the house.  At four month’s old, she’s starting to chat (telling everybody what to do already)!  Mr. Crafty Quilter is a bit of a baby hog, but when it’s time for cuddling, grandma gets the prize.

I made Amelia two stuffed elephants, one large and one small, using this free tutorial from Birch Fabrics.  The small one is just her size and the trunk is perfect for chewing.

I haven’t had much time in the sewing room this week, but I did finish this quilt top that has been a UFO for over 8 years.  I still love this mixture of Kaffe Fassett and cinnamon solids.  My son Jon was a good sport and agreed to be the quilt model.  It’s a perfect fall day here in Northern California for picture taking.

I completely stay away from the Black Friday madness that follows Thanksgiving.  Fortunately, there are a few ways to get my shopping fix without leaving the comfort of my home.

It’s worth checking out these deals for supplies at Craftsy.  Plus it’s a great time to try a new class at Craftsy, too

You can also find some great deals on books, magazines, patterns and kits at Interweave.  Save 50% Storewide at Interweave!

How about you?  Are you celebrating Thanksgiving?  Going shopping this weekend?  Where ever you are and whatever you do, I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Glad everyone is doing well. Such a handsome family. Thanks for the link like the extra large ears of the elephant. I think that is going to be Christmas for the latest great grand.

  2. I’m still catching up on mail since coming back from a Missouri Star Quilt Company Retreat (2nd year in a row!) and would like to add that I purchased some fabric there to make your Nordic Star Quilt! 🙂 No shopping today as I started on some Christmas ornaments for the office. Thank you for sharing your family with us, recent completed beautiful projects, and current sales. I can only imagine it has been a wonderful week for you and Mr Crafty Quilter with the new baby! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Onto online shopping and emails… 🙂

  3. Thanks for the greeting for this holiday season that begins with Thanksgiving. I am one who does not get out for the mad sales rush either. I prefer the online sales in the comfort of my home and PJ’s. Your son, Jon, makes displaying a quilt an added attraction, thanks! Looks like Amelia is really enjoying that elephant you made! Here’s wishing you and yours wonderful joys this holiday season.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving the day after! I may or may not have had pecan pie for breakfast! Thanks for the cute elephant link, I’ve made a few baby elephant quilts as gifts lately! So this is perfect to go with! Kisses to that sweet baby, you lucky grandma! Love the finish on your UFO! Cute son too! Did you see I made your block for my swap this month, I’ll tag you in it, I can’t remember if I did?
