February UFO finish and link up

I’m so glad to finish the month of February with a finished project!  One less UFO on my list.  There is a link up at the end of this post so we can all share our UFO completions.  How did you guys do?  Aren’t you glad there’s an extra day in February this year?

My project has been around a long time.  Maybe 7 years?  It’s a big finish for me, and even though it’s not really my style anymore (in terms of color) I appreciate it none the less.  The quilt pattern is called Snow Flower.

I used Hobb’s Heirloom wool batting which gives the quilt a lot of loft.  It also shows off the quilting really well.  I went with a simple cross hatch in the border and a poinsettia-like flower in the snowball blocks.  Sometimes I feel like the quilting takes for e v e r!

I chose to stitch the binding on entirely by machine (no hand sewing).  It’s the only way I could get this finished on time and I have no regrets with my choice.  If you’re interested in learning more about binding entirely by machine, you can watch my Binding Tips 3 video from The Quilt Show.

I couldn’t leave this next picture out of the mix.  Cooper is always my #1 helper.

Now it’s your turn to show us what you finished this month!  Prizes?  Did someone say prizes?  Yes, we have two great giveaways this month.  First, the Fat Quarter Shop is giving away a $25 gift certificate!  It’s always a treat to be able to shop online, especially with the great selection that I find at Fat Quarter Shop.

The second prize is a little bundle of goodness that I put together.  It includes a zipper pouch (made by me), pattern, mini charm pack, Frixion pen and Creative Grids 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ ruler.

  1. Hi, Julie. I read your rules for posting UFOs. I posted 2 categories (finished quilts and progress on another) rather than 2 finished projects. I thought it would be ok, since it’s only 2 photos. I just wanted to show off my 3 completed quilts. Such a relief to have them done! And labeled!! Thanks for the inspiration, Lori

  2. What a stunning quilt! Cooper is the perfect model to help showcase such a beautiful finish. As a matter of fact, that last picture is so pretty, it coul be a calendar page!

  3. Hi Julie, your Snowflower quilt is beautiful, it must really feel good having completed it as it’s a large quilt and a lot of quilting!

  4. Snow Flower is just stunning – I love this quilt! My February consisted of learning to use and understand my new Embroidery Only machine – so while I have some finishes – they are flour sack kitchen towels, not quilt (this month!). Love your fur-baby, too!

  5. Just so beautiful. The old saying ” haste makes waste” is so true. It took you a long time to finish the quilt so the saying is apapro. Gorgeous

  6. HI Julie
I am having a problem with the linkup. It wants a URL. I don’t remember having to do that step last month
    Thanks

  8. I think your snow flower quilt is beautiful and Cooper is a cutie, too. I did get a UFO finished. Unfortunately I don’t know what a Link up is so guess I will have to do some research on it. Have a great week!
