February UFO project and other things

Are you ready to tackle a “new” UFO project this month?  The good news is you get one extra day this February since it’s a leap year!  I wish there was an extra day each week just for quilting and crafting.  In my perfect world I would live long enough to use up all of my stash and finish all of my UFO’s!  I might as well be 20 pounds lighter, too. 😉

I look forward to the beginning of each month with anticipation because I get to find out which UFO I’ll be working on.  Since my method of selection is based on the APQ UFO Challenge, each month is a surprise because they randomly pick a number (1-12) and that’s the one on my list that I’ll work on.  The number 5 was chosen for February and that means I’ll be quilting my Snow Flower quilt.

I started this quilt in 2009(?).  It was the first kit I’d ever bought and it sat on the shelf for a year before I opened it up.  Talk about overdue!  Some of the quilting is done but I’d like to add a feathered border and something in the pieced squares.

I’m still in the mindset of done is better than perfect.  We’ll see how kind this month is to me in terms of UFO time.

What UFO project are you working on this month?  You still have until Feb. 6 to link up your January finish here.  So far, you guys have been busy getting things done!  I love it!

I will have another link-up at the end of this month to keep you motivated.  And there will be at least one prize winner selected from the participants that enter.

We’re doing a block of the month at the quilt shop I work at, The Granary, and we’re using the book Farm Girl Vintage as our pattern.  We’re making a sample to hang in the shop with the silo barn blocks and it’s almost done.  Don’t you love the Hazel fabric by Allison Harris for Windham Fabrics?

Working in a quilt shop is fun, and it comes with an occasional side benefit.  Yesterday I received this adorable pincushion from my coworker, Candy.  It was such a nice surprise!  The pattern is called Pincushion Panache by Oceanlake Design.

I’m busy researching blog logos and custom themes for The Crafty Quilter.  Hopefully I’ll have a pretty site to click on soon!

Happy Wednesday!

The top is already complete, it just needs to be quilted and binding added. Shouldn’t be a problem ( hopefully no glitches !)

  11. I worked on a quilt I started in 2009. I have the top completed, but I don’t know how to upload the picture. I love this idea and couldn’t wait to see the Feb. number!

  12. I’ll have to confess that item#5 on my list wasn’t one that I wanted to tackle this month so I did a swap for a project I liked better. I know that’s not in the spirit of this UFO Challenge but I figure getting something done was better than being half-hearted about it. I’ll try to keep to the list in the months to come…no promises.

Your quilt is lovely and I think some simple quilting would be sufficient. I like your barns too.

  13. Really love seeing what catches your eye. Right now I am looking for hand sewing that will travel. Sorta tired of EPP hexagons. Have a bunch of Aunt Martha transfers.
