Splendid Valentine’s Day

How’s your Valentine’s Day going so far?  Mine is splendid!  This morning I checked my inbox and was so happy to see that the first block of the Splendid Sampler Sew Along has been released. I jumped right in and made two blocks straight away.

My first block is made using my collection of Fig Tree fabrics.  I’m glad to have a large project to sew with this.

This little heart block made my day feel even more like Valentine’s.  I think it’s so cute!  I used raw edge applique with a small zig zag stitch.

This went together so quickly that I decided to make another block using a very old collection of red, pink, brown and tan prints.  I used to love the combination of brown and pink.  I still do, but it’s not my top choice.  I’m excited to put this fabric to good use, though.

For this heart, I’m using an invisible turned edge applique by machine.  That’s a lot of adjectives for applique (and they may not be in the right order)!  If you’re curious about this method, I did a tutorial several years ago that you can check out here.  The idea is to make the applique look like it was done by hand.  Sneaky.

And finally, this Valentine’s Day is super splendid because Mr. Crafty Quilter bought me round trip tickets (plus hotel) to Quilt Con!  I was bummed because I didn’t think I’d be able to go.  After a conversation between my daughter and husband, the idea was hatched that this would make an outstanding Valentine’s Day gift.  That would be an understatement.  I’m elated and Mr. Crafty Quilter is happy that I’m happy.  I’m a lucky lady (perhaps a bit spoiled, too)!  Anyone else going to be in Pasadena for Quilt Con?  Let me know, I would love to meet you!  Send me an email!  So far, my schedule is wide open.

I hope you’re day is a splendid one!

Julie
