March UFO Link up & giveaway

It’s the last day of March and time to share your UFO finish and be entered into this month’s giveaway.  If you’re just joining in, you can find all of the details here:  Hello 2016, Goodbye UFO’s.

Hello 2016, Goodbye UFO's

My project for this month was to complete the center alphabet blocks of my A-Z for Ewe and Me block of the month from 2014.  And, yes, I got it finished and it feels so good!

This is such a big project that I had to break it into parts that span several months.  Getting the interior alphabet units finished and sewn together is the first part.  I’ll move on to the borders next (when that number comes up on my list per the APQ UFO challenge).

Working on this project brought back some great memories of my time on The Quilt Show, as their “2014 block of the month video specialist”.  It also made me really appreciate the designer of this quilt, Janet Stone, and the work that must have gone into creating a BOM.  Janet has made a series of beautiful alphabet quilts that have been winning awards left and right.  If you’re interested in the original pattern, A-Z for Ewe and Me, I’m sorry to say it’s no longer available from the TQS website.  We are looking into finding out if it’s possible to purchase the pattern elsewhere.

Now it’s your turn! If you have a quilt or other sewing project that you finished in March, add a picture of it to the link up.  If you’re having trouble joining the link up, you can check out this tutorial, How to Join a Linky Party, by Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts.

I will pick two winners from this month’s linky who will receive either a layer cake of Scrumptious by Bonnie & Camille for Moda OR a bundle of goodies including an Embroidery Pocket Guide, Drunkard’s Path Bloc-Loc ruler and a mini charm pack.

Link-up Rules:

  • You may add up to 2 finished projects.
  • One image per finished project.
  • Project must be sewing or quilting related.
  • The link-up will be open until April 7, at midnight, PST.
  • The giveaway is open to USA or Canada only, however, anyone can join the link-up. If a winner is chosen that is international, then another number will be picked until it meets the criteria.
  • Winner will be drawn at random on April  8, 2016.

  1. I just found this site and i’m enjoying all the info. plus all the beautiful projects. I was just wondering about the 2019 ufo & wip challenge I did not start in Jan. is it too late to join in on the fun for April. All the photo seem to be of finished ufo and NO wip photos. Can i submit a photo of a completed quilt top that will go to a long-arm quilter.? Or wait till I get it back in a few weeks?

  2. I love an ABC quilt!!!! Yours is beautiful!!! I have a plan for a summer quilt with “spell it with Moda” I have some finishes for March, although not as many as I’d like! I seem to be only getting snippets of ” quilting/sewing time ” I’m ever hopeful so here’s looking at April!!!! I’ll link the pillow I made for a dear friend whom I’ve known since 7th grade! Shhh…… Don’t tell anyone that were 56 years old this year! My birthday is 3 weeks before hers, so she always calls and says ” hi I’m calling to wish my MUCH older friend Happy Birthday!” Haha!!! 3. Oh Julie!

  4. Wow! That is beautiful! Just wondering..please, please nobody take this the wrong way, but do people who make beautiful quilts (or finish at all, lol), have full time jobs?? I have so many quilt dreams in my head, and I don’t think I’m ever going get one done :/ How do you guys do it! ❣

  5. What a beautiful, and very involved looking quilt, soo
Many moving parts, with the end result “spectacular !!! “

  6. Julie, your work is exquisite! I have finished the same quilt top from Janet Stone but I am scared to quilt the top on my sewing machine. Believe it or not, I am using my mothers 50 yr old Singer ( not a Featherweight) but it is old and only has a few stitches to choose from. This quilt is SO big but so beautiful. Janet is an amazing designer. I have never quilted something so big. So there it sits in my to do pile. I really enjoy your website and learn so much from you and your tutorials on the quilt show. Like you, I could quilt all day and not talk to anyone all day. It is my happy place.

  7. I’ve done a little bit on a lot of different things this month and almost have 2 mini quilt tops finished. It’s been extra challenging–which is the reason it became a UFO. It’s not really completed but I really appreciate the push to work on things.

  8. For this month I dug out quilts squares that I made back in 2011. My goal was to sew them into a quilt top. Well, I decided to split the blocks into two tops. I’m happy to say that I did finish up the tops by getting the blocks sewn and the borders added. I’m not interested in going any farther with this. I’ll be donating these tops.

  9. I just purchased the A-Z for Ewe and Me pattern and can’t wait to get it. Your quilt is fabulous. Thanks for the reminder that one should break this quilt up into bite-size pieces. It’s daunting when viewed as one enormous project. You are inspiring me to get cracking on two of my UFOs!

    1. Homespun Hearth (online) has the A to Z for Ewe and Me pattern for around $55.00. It is on a flash drive so one will have to print it themselves. Check compatibility with your computer before you buy.

  10. This is the first time I’ve added a link-up to a posting, It’s there so I’m feeling mighty smug! Elephant Parade is the baby quilt I’ve been making for my new grandson. Of course, it was my January goal but I didn’t finish until early this month. But…it’s done and I’m working on my next UFO. Thanks for spurring me on, Julie.

  11. It is so pretty and cheery Julie, That would go on my bed or couch on New Year’s Day and stay till Easter. I can’t believe all the work in that quilt. You have got to feel great about this finish.8-)

  12. Absolutely beautiful. Janet’s pattern is wonderful and so well designed. I did save the pattern when it was available on TQS – one of these days I’d love to make it.

  13. You have inspired me to finish my Abc quilt. I am in middle of a commission quilt but hope to finish in 2 months. Thank you for sharing.
