Trick or treat

It’s trick or treat time!  I’ve been busy with household stuff and I haven’t posted in over a week.  I did have time to make a few treat bags for my granddaughter Amelia’s first Halloween.  The first one I made was too big.  I don’t know what I was thinking when I put this one together, but I wasn’t visualizing a one year old when I figured the size.

The second treat bag is much better, but still too big.  Amelia will have a few years to grow into it.  I used fat quarters and because of the directional print, I had to incorporate more fabrics to get the side panels to work.

I’m pretty sure Amelia likes it just the way it is.  It has one pocket on the inside to hold a flashlight.  The pattern was adapted from one that I found in a book.  I added fusible fleece to the lining to give it some body.

I will be back tomorrow with the UFO link up for October.  I hope you’re having a great Sunday!

  1. Amelia is getting tall and still a cutie, they go through so many stages, she is going to be a beauty. I agree with her choice of bags, The little owls are cute with the polka dots. You can carry a blanket or anything else she may need for
her first Halloween excursion in the largest bag.

  2. oh my goodness, how wonderful is that bag and does she just love it. This will last for some years to come
Thanks again Julie for a lovely news letter. I always feel that you have talking just to me, yes of course I know its for us all but you make us feel pretty special and part of the ‘family’

  3. Hi Julie,
Oh my Gosh, I laughed out loud when I saw the picture of that big trick or treat bag for such a little girl, but it is so cute! Save it for a few years, she’ll be able to use it when she’s a little older. She sure is getting big isn’t she? What a cutie pie. And the apple of Grandma’s eye too, I bet. Thanks for sharing the pics.
    Blessings!

  4. I liked all 3 bags. And Amelia is a little doll. I am not much into Halloween any more but I still love all the things sewn for the holiday!

  5. Hi Julie, as always I love everything that you make and especially love your choice of fabric. I never got around to making Halloween bags for my 2 grandsons. Instead, they use something my son used for his halloween treats– a halloween pail that McDonalds use to give away with their happy meals many years ago. The pails are just like a pail you would use at the beach and each pail had a different pumpkin face on it, so cute! Amelia is growing up so fast! and so cute. Like you, I have been busy with household stuff and taking care of my 93 year old mother. Looking forward to your next blog. Take care.

  6. I love the idea of a pocket for a flashlight! I didn’t get a trick-or-treat bag made in time for this year, but I hope to make one for my little guy in time for next year. Now in my head I’m adding a pocket! It’s a great bag and Amelia will use it for years!

  7. Both of the bags are really adorable bags! I would agree that your grand daughter loves it just the way it is and will have fun using it this year.

I forgot all about the UFO finishing. Well maybe next time. Thank you for sharing and have a fantastic creative day!

  8. how cute is Amelia!!! Love the Halloween bag ! Looks like she does too. I can see her using this for Christmas, Valentines, maybe a permanent accessory! Love it !

  9. I love all your fabrics – I never see anything like that here in the UK. I remember the first child bag I made was much too big and the handles too wide, but they came in handy for somebody else 🙂 I love Amelia’s little brown boots – they remind me of some I had many moons ago.

  10. Julie, If that’s Amelia in the photo, she is growing up soooo quickly! What a beautiful child with such a happy smile! The bags are wonderful and so fun! You’ve inspired me, once again!! Happy Halloween!!!
