Check out my March favorites

Today, I’m sharing my March favorites with you.  If you’re new to my blog, I recently began a new series where I share my favorite things each month that include a little bit of everything.

March Favorites

I LOVE the new Hoop Quilts that were recently introduced by Anne Marie of Gen X Quilters.  Who says a quilt can’t be round?  These make adorable mini quilts that are quick to give as gifts or decorate your own space.  If you act quickly (like today), the pattern is on sale for $8.00 (regular $12.00).

The latest book to make its way into my quilting library is Free-Motion Machine Quilting 1-2-3 by Lori Kennedy.  If you’re familiar with Lori from her blog, The Inbox Jaunt, you will recognize her style and detailed step-by-step free motion quilting photos.  There are designs to fit just about any type of quilt and I’m excited to try out a few!

After researching different shelf and drawer liners, I’ve decided on Quartet Cork Roll.  Cork is an eco-friendly product that is also water resistant which makes it a perfect choice for protecting your drawers and shelves.  It has a little bit of padding and things won’t slide around as much – which is what I want in my utensil and junk drawers.  I should be able to move into my new kitchen this weekend!!!

Something I’ve been making a lot lately is this Simple Classic Chili from Sharon at Certified Pastry Aficionado.  It’s the perfect meal for a cold winter night (even though it’s technically Spring in the states.)  This is an easy recipe that is customizable; I often make it a little healthier by adding carrots, zucchini, corn and ground turkey.  If your sweet tooth is feeling left out, check out all of the delicious dessert recipes that Sharon has to offer.

Any time I do hand embroidery (which has been a lot this month), I make sure to use my Clover Needle Threader For Embroidery Needles.  It’s the best thing for threading all of that floss through your needle.  I don’t know how I could live without it!

I know I’m forgetting something on this list, but I’ll think of it in time for the next edition.  It’s been such a busy month at home.  This time of year, I’m known as a tax widow.  Mr. Crafty Quilter is the hardest worker I know, putting in 80 hours a week and still excited about his job as a tax accountant.  It also changes my life dramatically as I support him and take care of all the “other” details of life.  The bright side is there’s often more “me” time so I spend much of it in my sewing room!

Speaking of which, our kitchen/house remodel is finishing up this week, and I hope to be operating out of a fully functioning house by Monday!  I’ll take glamour shots and share them soon.

Happy Spring quilting!

  2. hoops are a good idea for a small project. Best of luck with the quilting, I spent all yesterday morning having a practise but cannot get the stitches all the same size whatever I do. Chilli looks tasty too

  3. Glad to hear you are reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. Remodels are often a challenge to live through!

  4. Hi Julie, I love the hoop quilts. What a great way to give someone a gift without it taking months ( or in my case, years) to complete. As far as using cork as a shelf liner, I wouldn’t have ever thought of that. Oh you clever woman you! I see it comes on a roll, do you have a problem with it curling? Do you have to weight it down on a flat surface before it lies flat enough to put in the drawer? One last comment… Hooray for you. You’re going to get your house back again only it will be so much nicer than before the remodel. I can’t wait to see the pics.
    Peace and blessings!

  5. Such an exciting time for you! Enjoy!!! You will have fun putting all the ‘stuff’ back in your new space, then changing your mind and starting over!
