Two finished quilts!

I have two finished quilts to show you today!  I got the final borders on my Sugar Block Sampler from last year.  I love it!  This was from the 2016 Sugar Block Club hosted by Amy Gibson at Stichery Dickory Dock.

I’ve handed the quilt off to my longarm quilter so it’s not actually finished, finished.  But, it’s out of my sewing room for the time being.  I had a little challenge with the photography backdrop with our remodel going on, but I think it worked.  That broom and ladder were already in place.  All it needed was a quilt, and that ladder is the perfect shade of red!

The fabrics I used came from a fat eighth bundle of Prairie by Corey Yoder for Moda.  They are truly happy colors that mix well together.  All of that white background really makes them pop.

My other finish, finish is this cute barnyard sampler from Lori Holt’s book, Farm Girl Vintage.  I love how it turned out and it fits in perfectly with The Granary Quilt Shop theme which is where it now hangs.  Paula, the shop owner, and I started this last year so it’s also another UFO that I have crossed off my list.

It feels so good to get a project (or two) finished.  Now it’s time for me to clean up my sewing room so I can prioritize the next project.  Do we quilters ever have a clean slate?

I’ll be back on Sunday with my list of “Sew Thankfuls”.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Both quilts are beautiful. I made a Sugar Block sampler last year too. I’m working on hand quilting it now. I’ll be lucky if I’m done before the end of this year.

  2. Very pretty Julie. I too, like the Granary quilt shop quilt best. Of course the little piggies sticking out from the quilt are kinda cute too. 🙂

  3. Finished quilts are gorgeous, as usual and I see wallboard is up and that is huge in the remodeling agenda. Now the fun begins…choosing all the pretties. Sometimes it seems overwhelming but it all comes to together not unlike selecting fabric for quilts, which you do excel at. On one of my many moves, one house we bought sat on a beautiful piece of property but the house was sold as is and we still bought it go figure. Husband says to me before the realtor open the door…”Well, it does need a little work.” HUGE understatement….I walked into sub floors, studs in some places, one out of 3 toilets were working and no doors on the bathrooms. It was quite the adventure and we lived in it while it was being remodeled with 6 dogs and 6 cats…..and I don’t even look insane. That is when I discovered that what I liked was redecorating NOT remodeling!!! Can’t wait to see the finished project. Just tell yourself that this too shall pass and it does. Take care!!

  4. Julie, your new quilts are so happy! I love the Granary Wuilt Shop one. I can’t wait to see it in the shop. Have a good weekend. Robin

  5. Both quilts are beautiful. You really have a great eye for color and design. You’ve given me inspiration to finish my Sugar Blocks now. Funnily enough I only have the dresden one to finish…. lovely colorful border too.

  6. really liking the variety of blocks on the first quilt and the scrappy border looks great. Barns also very nice

  7. Hi,
I saw the Farm Girl quilt in the store today and I really liked it. I enjoy that design with the silo and the border trims so it makes a great quilt for the store.

  8. Julie, I just want you (and your sponsors) to know that I buy nearly everything you recommend! I started my first machine applique by reading your tutorials and ordering all the tools and materials you mentioned. This week I read your blog and immediately ordered the Charm School book. Everything you create is so inspiring. Thank you!

  9. Good job. I wish I could finish my quilts faster. I just got a king-size Double Wedding Ring done and have given it to the “newlyweds” who were married 2 years ago. I love your designs and your color choices.

  10. I love both of your projects. I was able to get a couple of quilts ready to send to the quilter this weekend and that felt great. I did not participate in the Sugar Block Club last year but did in 2015, I must get that one put together. Great pictures of your quilts!

  11. Beautiful!! I love both of them! hose ufo’s have a way of piling up, my sister has over 50 she is working on them while still making new!!!

  12. Julie, your Sugar Block quilt top came out just perfectly, as was that impromptu photo shoot! I should get so lucky! I love how you changed it up a little and did the 4 Dresden plates in the corners. I have 4 more blocks to build before I can declare a finish, but they’ll have to wait until my return to Cape Breton next month. Mtheyll benfirst on my list. Hope my finished result is as pretty as yours! You have such a knack for choosing the best bundles. Enjoyed seeing the Granary Quilt Shop quilt, too. It doesn’t get any better than that! Enjoy your day! XO

  13. Both quilts are so beautiful. I especially love how you used the partial dresdens to frame the corners, it really brings it together. And by the way, that ladder is just the perfect companion in the photo!
