Upcoming projects and a matching game

I’ve been busy on the backside of my blog (I don’t even know the half of how it works).  It’s a frightening thing to get an email telling you that your website has been hacked.  Eeek!  So, I’m working on that, but I do have a few upcoming projects to tell you about and a matching game I made for Amelia to show you.

I’ve got the third block of Jacquelynne Steves’ I Love Home BOM finished and ready for Monday’s blog hop.  Month three has become my Christmas version of the BOM, and it’s just so cute!  Here’s a sneaky peaky.

I’ve been working with lots of stencils lately in preparation for a future blog post with The Stencil Company.  I’ll share some additional uses for stencils, and there will be a discount code for my blog readers to do some stencil shopping!

I was able to help my blogging friend, Karen @ KaHolly, who is collecting Dog Gone Cute blocks for a charity quilt that will be auctioned off for Second Chance Farm (they have been busy helping orphaned pets from Hurricane Harvey). You can read more about Karen’s request for quilt blocks here.  The Dog Gone Cute pattern is from Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts, who generously sponsored a quilt along with her free pattern a few years ago.

Cooper thinks I should have payed more attention to the coloring detail of my block.  I clearly  missed the other half of his rusty face!

Matching Game

I made a matching game for my granddaughter, Amelia, using some old scrapbooking paper and recycled cards.  It was a fun and quick project, and I loved being able to re-purpose some of my old crafting supplies.

I used scrapbooking paper (cardstock), a circle punch, glue and some unused Project Life cards that I found half-off a long time ago.  (I wisely did not start a Project Life journey.  I knew my level of commitment was not enough, but I admire people who do).

My cardstock is double sided, so I punched four circles from each one.  Two for each pair of colors.  The Project Life cards were the perfect size to fit one circle in the center of each card.  I had an old photo case that I labeled “Amelia’s Matching Game” and loaded it with the cards.  My daughter says that Amelia may be ready to advance to a memory game soon (smarty pants).

You know, this would work equally well with fabric scraps.  I have no shortage of 2 1/2″ squares that would be perfect for this!Matching game made by Julie Cefalu @ The Crafty Quilter

Tomorrow, I travel to Portland, Oregon to visit my good friend, Jody, who also happens to be a quilter and there also happens to be a quilt show happening that day. What are the odds?  Then on Friday, I take the train to Seattle and meet up with Mr. Crafty Quilter and my daughter, Nicole, who lives near Seattle.  We get to spend the weekend together and experience some real fall weather.

I had better get packing and finish a few more projects!  Have a wonderful, creative day!

  1. I made a matching game for my granddaughter last Christmas. I used scraps of batting, squares of denim for the backs, and fabric squares for the “matching” side. Each piece was pinked, and looked like mini quilts! So much fun!!

It wouldn’t be hard to make HIM one ;)! Enjoy your travels, Julie! I’m sure your granddaughter will love her new game. Little ones are so amazing. I’ll bet she surprises you all and nails it! XO

  5. Enjoy your trip to the pacific NW! We just did the opposite trip in August. We started in Seattle then took the train to Portland. When you get to Union Station be sure to tell the conductor that you want to sit on the west side of the train. The view of the water is really pretty.

  6. Hi Julie, I will be at the Portland show on Fri AM–sorry to miss the chance of “running into you and meeting face-to-face” 🙂 Dorothy
