October Favorites & the cutest world series fan

Today, I’m sharing my October favorites with you.  For the past few weeks, I kept running across ideas for this blog post, but I didn’t write them down.  I thought to myself, “I’ll remember that one when I get to my computer!”  Well, hello!  Mental-pause is here and nothing stays put in my brain for long.  Does that happen to you?  I need to keep sticky notes close at hand!

My first favorite is more of a “sew thankful” kind of thing, but I thought I would share it sooner rather than later:

In response to the fires in Napa and Sonoma counties, quilts are being collected for Happiness is a Warm Quilt.  So many families and individuals have lost everything in these fires.  I really appreciate the generosity of the quilting community in times of need!

I love the new fabric line, Blue Carolina, by The Tattooed Quilter for Riley Blake Designs.  It is just filling my blue infatuation perfectly!

The new book, Sew Advent Calendars, by Debbie Shore has just been released and the timing couldn’t be better.  It is full of the cutest ideas to make your own advent calendar for the holidays.

I’m discovering the world of truffles and I was so glad to see this post from Truffle Addict on how to make healthy truffles at home.  Yes, really!  These would be perfect for the upcoming holidays as well.

I just made these Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies yesterday and I had to share!  The recipe comes from Monique at Ambitious Kitchen, and they are the perfect October treat!  I have pinned so may recipes from that website; it’s definitely worth a visit.

And lastly, we are traveling to Austin tomorrow to visit our granddaughter (and her mom and dad).  How could I not be rooting for the Houston Astros to win the World Series, when sweet Amelia, is such a huge fan!  Go Astros!

Note: My monthly favorites are not sponsored by anyone. These are picked by me “just because”. They are something I would tell my friends about and that definitely includes you! Do you have any favorites you’d like to share?

  1. Hi Julie, I had to laugh when you mentioned mental pause because it happens to my husband and I all the time. My husband seriously worried that he was developing dementia because he forgot things all the time. I reassured him that he was just experiencing mental pause as you called it.I have a sheet of paper that I use to remember things I need to do, etc. It seems to help. Anyway, i hope you and the hubby enjoy your visit with Amelia and her Mom and Dad. That picture of her at the game with the earplugs on was so cute. Safe travels. God bless!

  2. Welcome back to Texas! 🙂 Your grandaughter is adorable! I know you are enjoying your time with her. The fabric is on sale at the Fat Quartershop today-a layer cake. It is so pretty. Debbie Shore has cute projects I have made several of her ideas 🙂 Thanks for sharing as always..back to work for me lunch is over 🙂

  3. Have a wonderful time visiting with Amelia! She is such a cutie! I’m in Austin now staying with my daughter until my house is completed. This is just a wonderful place to live, and I can’t wait to move into my place, hopefully some time in January or February. I’m eager to get back to sewing and making quilts!

  4. Hi, Julie,
Great information all around. Ha Ha on the memory problems. I think this is a “catching” disease. My friends have it, too. I would tell you their names but I can’t remember them. LOL
    Cookies look yummy.
Amelia looks somewhat like her grandma. I know that makes you sad.
    Have fun on your trip.

  5. And will your trip to Austin include a side excursion to the Houston Quilt Festival? We’re flying to Houston on Monday to visit two sets of grands in Spring and Conroe. I chose the dates so I could squeeze in a visit to the Festival.

  6. I was okay memory-wise (I’ve always had a good memory) until I turned 70 last November 5th, and I swear, that day I started having trouble getting things back out of my memory! They eventually show up, but it’s usually in the middle of a new conversation…..lol. I have been a truffle aficionado for a long time. See’s Candy stores usually will give you a free piece of candy when you go in, and a lot of times it’s a truffle. My favorite flavor of truffle is dark chocolate with raspberry filling….swoon!

Amelia is getting so big, and those blue eyes are so striking. Give her a hug from me! I just got new pics of my grandchildren from one of my daughters-in-law last night. They are getting so big, too. The “baby” is now 3 1/2 and has long dark hair and dark eyes! If there was a way to attach a picture, I’d send you one.

    1. Follow up to Linda’s comment about mental pause…I have the same problem with remembering things and usually remember them in a different conversation and so i will say” Excuse me for interrupting, but I have to go with the thought when I have it” and then I will say whatever it was that I had forgotten earlier or I will tell the person something I had intended to at some point in the conversation but like I said ” I have to go with the thought when I have it”. 🙂 Most people understand perfectly.
