Fall is in the air and a giveaway winner

Do you feel the days getting shorter and the turning leaves starting to rustle in the wind? Fall is in the air, and I’m not quite ready to let summer go.  We had a houseful last week with our daughter and her girlfriend visiting from Washington and our other children frequently popping in and out when they could.  Their childhood friends came around to visit often along with two of my nieces for one night.  There was lots of cooking, eating, drinking and relaxing going on!

We’re still getting buckets of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers from the garden.  I’ve been making salsa, ratatouille, and caprese salads (my favorite) to go with our meals.  I just stumbled upon a great kitchen and garden resource, the Kitchen Garden Cookbook, while visiting Powell’s bookstore in Portland, Oregon last week (a quick 24 hour trip to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary).  It’s full of great recipes to use up the abundance of fruits and vegetables that we’re harvesting along with tips on growing them.  I see tomato jam with honey & marjoram in my near future.

The August Save The Bee’s giveaway winner of The Splendid Sampler book sponsored by Martingale Publishing and Jacquelynne Steves is comment #257, Gail Tooke.  In answering the question of your favorite size quilt to make, Gail said, “I make mostly queen/king quilts, but table runners are by far my favorite size.”  Thanks to everyone for participating in the giveaway!

I’m currently working on refreshing my most popular tutorial on The Crafty Quilter.  You’ll have to wait until Friday to find out what it is!  Thanks for stopping by today and Happy Quilting!

  1. I have been quilting for about 3 years now. I absolutely love it. I enjoy making wallhangings and also love making bags.

  2. I agree with you – I’m not ready for summer to end. I never am. Already the nights are cool and the sun is setting earlier. Sigh. The only consolation, I guess, is that if there is less time spent outdoors, there is more time for quilting.
I’m glad you had such a lovely visit with all your family!

  6. What a beautiful collections of your vegetable!! It’s been so hot down here that my tomatoes have yet to produce anything. I’m being patient and hopeful that before the season is over, I’ll get to have some tomatoes in my salad.
