Hey everyone! Today I am sharing my second block for the Save The Bees Block of the Month by Jacquelynne Steves. There is still time to sign up for this free BOM if you haven’t already. We also have a great giveaway – you can find the details at the end of this post (update – giveaway is now closed).
I’m really enjoying this project, and the applique technique I chose to use is super quick! Flying around those shapes with black thread and free motion stitching makes it so fast. Maybe that’s why I’m enjoying it so much, or more likely that it’s a super cute pattern and I love my fabric choices. You can see my first block here along with more information about the applique.
I used the same Pentel Gel Roller for Fabric as I did in last month’s block for the embroidery stitches. This is another great time saver with good results.
The other thing I did was simplify the leaves at the base of the flower into one applique piece instead of three separate leaves. It’s easy to do if you use the embroidery pattern page to trace the leaves and add a little “canal” between the leaves. I’ve circled the leaf shapes that I’m replacing and the finished leaf shape (face down) below:
I used my Clover Bias Tape Maker to create the stem. I wanted my stem cut on the bias because of the fabric pattern. I love the look of plaid on the bias!
The winner of this month’s giveaway will receive a copy of the Carpenter’s Apprentice pattern courtesy of Eva Paige Quilt Designs and Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers courtesy of New Leaf Stitches. They work hand in hand to make this beautiful quilt easily and effortlessly. Many thanks to our generous sponsors!
For my blog, all you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment by Sunday, September 9, 11:59 pm PST, on THIS blog post (not from my home page) telling me how long you’ve been quilting.
