Upcoming projects and ideas

Hey everyone!  I have some upcoming projects and ideas to share with you.  This is what I do when I don’t have all my tools and a space to work in, and I’m immersed in bathroom and bedroom remodel stuff.  I can dream and plan about quilting and blogging ideas without having anything to show for it!

I have actually finished both of my UFO’s for this month’s 2019 UFO & WIP Challenge.  I’ll show you those on the last Sunday of this month when we have the link up.  I hope you guys have been able to complete something for the month of March.  Even making progress on something is better than nothing.

I’m working on a blog post about whether you should use Frixion pens for quilting.  I love these pens but they’re not always a good choice for marking on fabric.  But sometimes they are!  I’ll give you my full report next week.

I want to make a quilt using charm packs and the disappearing nine patch technique.  I think it would be so fun to do this together!  It will be a low-stress, easy project that would run as a sew-along.  I’m thinking of a summer start date, so it would make a perfect picnic quilt.  Don’t worry, I’ll give you plenty of time to get your supplies together.   What do you think?

That’s all I’ve got so far (besides the monthly Sew Thankful Sunday blog posts and UFO & WIP challenge).  I will be super busy over the next three weeks getting my house back together.  We’re hoping for final inspection later this week.  Plus, I have a full storage container that needs to be unloaded and an empty sewing room that needs to be filled!  I’ll keep you updated on that.  For now, I can show you one bathroom that is just about complete.  It needs a little decorating, but it’s functional!

  2. Yes, I would love to participate in your disappearing nine-patch QAL. Due to family events this spring (our daughter’s wedding), I have not been able to quilt at all. An early summer QAL is perfect timing for me and I am eager to do some fun sewing!

  3. I love the sneak peak of your bathroom–so –spa like 🙂 I deployed for nearly 2 years and there was no bathroom like home! I hope to have another UFO done this month putting me at 2! I was working on some spring pillows and “bunny in clay pots” craft and really feel like that I’m making progress on everything!! I have done 2 quilts as the disappearing 9 patch from MSQC–and sureeeeeeeee I would love to quilt along this summer. I have some precuts on hand! Thanks so much for all you share!

  4. Good luck with the renovations, Julie! Tough at the time, but worth it in the end. Like the new project ideas! I also use frixion pens, but have my reservations. I once marked some older fabric, and the pen mark came off, but it seemed that the colour had been taken out of the fabric, it looked as if it had bleach lines on it. The pen was starting to dry out, and I pressed down really hard to mark, so maybe that was it. Look forward to your take on them, because they are very handy. x

  5. Hi Julie, it’s been a crazy few months here. I’ve done some easy piecing while my Mom was in rehab and it was very satisfying. Things didn’t go as planned though, and we lost my beautiful Momma last Friday. So I will be watching your blog and enjoying it immensely but won’t participate for awhile. I’m numb right now, but forever grateful to have had her as my Mom. Thanks for sharing everything you post. Love it all.

  7. Hi Julie,
Kudos to you for finishing both projects this month 🙂 I have made some progress on my UFO for this month, but I don’t think it will be completed by the end of the month, but that’s okay at least I have begun to tackle it 🙂

  8. I have heard conflicting opinions about the Frixion pens, so I am looking forward to your post about them.

The disappearing nine-patch has been on my to-do list for a very long time, since I have never made one. Perhaps this summer will be the time!

  13. it will be interesting to hear what you have to say on the Frixon pen – I have never used them I don’t like the idea of having to iron your marks out and wonder if they would come back

  14. Hello Julie, I would love to join you for a sew along. But, I will not be able to. We are going to be moving back to Wyoming over the next few months (between the start of packing and until the end of unpacking). It will be very nice to be back with a whole lot of family once again and it is where I was born and raised, until we moved to Southern Oregon over 30 years ago. I will be lucky if I can keep up with my UFO’s during this time. I am almost finished with this months and am very happy with it. I do like your new bathroom and look forward to seeing more of your remodeled home as you are able to share. Have a wonderful day!
