20 gift ideas for quilters
If you have a quilter on your gift list, then you’ll definitely want to read my 20 gift ideas for quilters. (Updated December 2022). It’s difficult to know what to buy a quilter, especially one that seems to have everything already! And if you are a quilter, you’ll want to show this blog post to your family and friends before they go shopping!
I’ve broken my list into two parts. Part One is made up of gift ideas under $50 and includes quilting notions and gifts that might be considered “beyond basic”. In other words, not every quilter will have these items in their toolbox. Part Two is the luxury gift list. This list has those things that many quilters want, but wouldn’t buy for themselves. (I like this list the most 😉 ).

Gift ideas under $50
- The Quilt Show Star Membership. This is an online quilt show hosted by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims that is packed full of tutorials, patterns, classrooms, BOM’s, shopping, and recorded quilt shows with top teachers and designers. You can join as a free member, but Star Memberships offer full access to all shows and more. I’m a huge fan and I think it’s an awesome value. Price: $49 for 12 months or $29 for 6 months at The Quilt Show.
- (a) A Quilting Life Planner & Workbook. Designed by Sherri McConnell, this is not just a planner, but it’s an organizational tool as well. It has monthly planning pages, space for lists and notes, and 12 different topics on organizing your sewing space and home. Price: $20.98 at Fat Quarter Shop.
- (b) If you’re looking for something that’s more of a planner but it’s also geared for the quilter, then you might consider The Quilter’s Planner. This is what I’ve been using for the past several years and it’s fully customizable. It includes a quilter’s resource section, planning pages as well as 8 quilt patterns! - BladeSaver Thread Cutter. This is a genius thread cutter that uses an old rotary blade to cut threads. If you do a lot of chain piecing, this little gadget will save you lots of time snipping fabric units apart. I love mine and use it all the time. Price: on sale!

- Sew Steady Grid Glider. This handy product is a slick mat that covers your sewing surface for easy free motion quilting. It also has markings for 1/4″, 1/2″ and 5/8″ seams as well as diagonal seam guides for HST’s. Price: $22.48 at Fat Quarter Shop
- The Quilt Keeper. This is a fairly new product that is such a great idea for storing quilts. It fits over any standard door and there is no assembly required. It’s very easy to use and perfect for any size quilt. Price: $39.99 at The Quilt Keeper
- Omnigrid Foldaway Cutting & Pressing Station 12″ x `18″. This is a portable cutting mat and pressing surface for taking to quilt classes and retreats. I like the larger size because it’s more flexible in the types of projects I can work with. Price: $31.49 (43% off) at Amazon.
- 12″ Tailor’s Clapper. This is a great tool for pressing seams and making them stay flat. Not many quilters have caught onto this notion. I have this same one and it’s always in use! Price: $23.95 at Amazon.
- Alphabitties Specialty Marking Tools. These little markers keep your fabric pieces and blocks organized for easy piecing. They can also be used to keep quilt rows and columns in place while laying them out and sewing together. Price: $7.48 at Fat Quarter Shop.
- Betty Bands. These are made by Steady Betty and I love them for free motion quilting. They wrap around your hands and give you control of the quilt sandwich as your sewing. They come in two sizes and allow your fingers that tactile feel and control without making your hands sweaty! Price: $14.98 at Fat Quarter Shop.
- Precut Fabric Bundles. This might not be unique, but I can assure you that every quilter would appreciate a bundle of precut fabric! I love Green Fairy Quilts for purchasing precuts. Gift Ideas Over $50
- Oliso Mini Craft Iron. This compact iron has the power of a full-size iron with a smaller footprint. It’s perfect for taking to classes or just for its space saving ability. Price: $59.99 at Amazon
- Craftsy Membership. I’m so glad that Craftsy is back and in full swing. You can purchase individual classes or you can opt for a membership which gives you full access to their class library. - Wool Pressing Mat. These mats absorb heat which makes them great for pressing from both sides at once. They come in a variety of sizes, so you can make the price point work for your budget. I like the 17″ x 24″ for my ironing table. It’s still portable but can handle a large quilt block or fabric cut. Price: $44.99 at Amazon.
- Creative Grids Stripology XL Ruler. This ruler has slots every 1/2″ that fit a rotary cutter perfectly. It is perfect for squaring up blocks and cutting fabric strips really fast and efficiently. I recently purchased this ruler and I absolutely love it! Price: $74.99 at Amazon.
- Accuquilt Go! Me Fabric Cutter Starter Set. This would make a nice gift for any quilter. It uses dies to cut fabric into most any shape or size used in quilting. It’s great for shortening the amount of time spent cutting so you can get down to business sewing. Accuquilt fabric cutters come in different sizes – this is the more portable (and affordable) option. This might go on my own Christmas list! Price:

- Cheryl Ann’s Quilting Design Wall. This is a portable design wall and a great option if you don’t have wall space for a permanent one. This is a must have tool for most quilters (and one that I still need)! I have my eye on the 72″ square version. Price: $160.00 at Amazon.
- Electric Quilt 8 Software. This is a wonderful quilt design tool that I use often. It is fairly user-friendly and there are lots of tutorials to help navigate the program. If you already have EQ8, then consider purchasing the BlockBase+ companion software for it. It’s loaded with over 4,000 quilt blocks that are ready for your quilt design. - (b) Quilt Kit. Fat Quarter Shop also has a variety of quilt kits to choose from. Kits contain all of the fabric you need to make the quilt, not including the backing. Price varies depending on kit at Fat Quarter Shop.
- Rowenta Perfect Pro Station Steam Iron. A good iron is a must when sewing and quilting. The Rowenta Perfect Pro Iron has great reviews and a few in particular by professional quilters. It’s definitely a luxury iron and would make a great gift for your favorite quilter. Price: $308.67 at Amazon.
- Juki TL-2010Q Sewing Machine. I’ve saved the best for last. This is a favorite sewing machine by many quilters for good reason. It’s basic (straight stitch only), but makes very precise stitches and has a large harp (throat) space for quilting. It’s on sale now for $899 thru December 31, 2022 at Sewing Machines Plus!
I had so much fun making this list to 20 gift ideas for quilters. There are so many gift options available and it’s difficult to say what a person needs or already has. Often the best present is a gift certificate to your favorite local quilt shop or online quilt shop. That lets the recipient have all of the fun and removes the stress from you! And if you can find any of the items listed today at your local quilt shop, that’s the best place to buy them!
