Getting ready for the Piece and Quilt Sampler QAL

A New Year calls for a new project! I love the excitement of something new and I’m definitely feeling that as I get ready for the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop. This QAL kicks off in March 2024 and continues through February 2025, so there’s plenty of time to join the fun!

Piece and Quilt Sampler details

The Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt finishes at 72.5”x 91.25”, and is an intermediate level quilt. In order to follow along, you’ll need the book, Celebrate with Quilts by Lissa Alexander and Susan Ache. This book is a treasure trove of 60 quilt blocks and 12 quilt projects. It’s full of scrappy inspiration and well worth the price of the book! As of today (Jan. 12, 2024) it’s 30% off!

This intermediate level project incorporates blocks of varying sizes, including 3″ square, 6″ square, 9″ square and 12″ square, resulting in a rich tapestry of intricate designs and patterns.

This is going to be one of those gorgeous quilts that is a true labor of love. Even though the description says intermediate, I want to assure you that there is nothing too difficult in the piecing of each block. There are no templates, specialty rulers or curved piecing involved. It’s mostly common building blocks of squares, rectangles, HST’s and flying geese. A sampler quilt does require attention to detail so it pays to take your time.

How to join

I’m sure you’re wondering what you need to do in order to join the Piece and Quilt Sampler QAL. The short answer is nothing. There is NO formal sign up or procedure to follow along. You just need the book, Celebrate with Quilts, and some fabric!

The purpose of the quilt along is to motivate and inspire you. Having a schedule makes it easy to plan and stay on track. It definitely keeps me accountable! I’ll be sharing my blocks each month on Instagram and here on my blog. It’s going to be so fun to see how the same quilt design looks in different fabric and colorways!

My fabric pull

For my version, I’ll be using a fat quarter bundle of Starberry by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. I’ve loved this collection ever since I saw it on social media! It’s due to ship to stores in May, 2024, but I was able to get a bundle sooner (thanks Moda!). I’ve added some complimentary fabrics from my stash along with a solid background of Bella Solids in Off White. I’m super excited to make a Christmas version of the sampler!
