Giveaway winner, graduation and vacation plans

I have lots to tell you in a small amount of time!  Giveaways, graduation, and vacation are on the list.  First, let me announce the giveaway winner from Maggie’s First Dance, hosted by Jacquelynne Steves and sponsored by Aurifil Threads.  The winner is #53, Anna, who said:

I have been quilting for one year (but have tried to do it for many years but always thought it would be too hard-even though I have been sewing since 1970. Haven’t completed many quilts (have several started). I am always trying new things (in quilting) and I think that is why I haven’t completed many quilts. Love quilting and your block.

Congratulations, Anna!

We’ve been busy on the home front with our youngest daughter’s graduation from college.  We had all of the kids home to celebrate, and we couldn’t be more proud of Sara!  We drove to Davis, CA, for the day and had a picnic before the ceremony.

Back at home, we got to spend four wonderful days with our grand daughter, Amelia, and the rest of our kids.  Mr. Crafty Quilter lived up to his name and made Amelia a busy board or latch board as it’s sometimes called.  After consulting with me for painting ideas, we came up with a square-in-a-square design (of course it had to be a quilt block) which turned out perfect.  I might have to do a separate blog post to tell you about all of the bells and whistles on this project!

Amelia loves her Busy Board and it should keep her entertained for a few more years.

I seem to be making quilt blocks and not much else these days.  I’ve finished the June block from the Sugar Block Club.  and a few more blocks from Lori Holt’s Farm Girl Vintage BOM.

And next on the agenda is an epic vacation trip to Sweden and Norway!  We leave tomorrow and we’re bringing three of our children with us.  We’ll be visiting our niece and her family in Sweden.  They’ve had a job transfer that brought them to Sweden and they just had baby #2!  No quilt yet for baby #2, but their two year old boy is getting a quilted race track.  This is a panel from Northcott called Speedway.

I guess I can count this as a quilt and I still have to put the binding on it!  Yikes!  We will be gone for the rest of the month, so it will be quiet around here for a while.  I’ll have pictures and news to share when I return.

I hope you’re all having a great summer so far.  Are you still working on those UFO’s?  I’ll have the link up for June ready on the 30th so you can show us what you completed.  There will be two prize packages as usual, but I haven’t even gotten around to putting them together.  It will happen, though, one day at a time!

Thanks for sharing your time with me today.  I hope you have a great day!

  1. I am new to your web site but I will enjoy exploring it. Unfortunately, my quilting has been put on hold for the last eight weeks. I fell on April and broke my right leg(sewing foot) in nine places. I have no idea when I will be able to use it yet. However, I am planning a quilt that needs 720 petal pieces so I can sit and cut!! Never can get a quilter down! I am glad to join your group, I will keep you posted…..

  2. Congratulations on the graduation. Lots of great stuff in this post but I love the latch board that you made. My son had a store bought one (from Melissa & Doug) that he obsessed over for at least 2 years. It never occurred to me to make one. Well done!

  3. What a wonderfully refreshing and delightful post ! Congratulations to your daughter. And what an exciting trip you have planned! I’m looking forward hearing all about it! You’ll miss your sewing machine! XO

  4. Oh boy–I’d love to see more of that busy board! We have two little ones in the extended family who would be delighted with that, as would their moms. And I’d like to try my crafty hand at it, too! When you get a chance, I would welcome more details.

  5. Congratulations on the graduation!!! That busy board is the cutest ever! I had 4 kids and have never seen one before…how could that be? Yes please do a tuitorial for it!!! I hope that I can get something finished by the 30th…does a mug rug count? I was practicing some FMQ on a couple that I’ve had cut out for a while, one is bound! I too haven’t had enough time for sewing much lately, or at least sewing what I want to be sewing!!! I’m altering a friends formal dress that she is wearing in her sons wedding next month, and helping my 3rd daughter with her blossoming business! Unfortunately she had her only helper quit unexpectedly and without any notice. She’s just hired someone new but the girl has some manners and is giving her employer 2 weeks notice. Kiss that cute grandbaby!

  6. Congratulations to Sara! You have a beautiful family. Have a wonderful trip! No need to respond back, you are busy enough!

  7. Wow, you have been busy. Congrats to your DD! Your little one is getting so big. She is just adorable. Love your cherry block and the race track is too fun. Have a wonderful vacation.

  8. Congratulations to your daughter Sara! What a great achievement. Good luck to her in her future years ahead.
It looks like Amelia was enjoying her Busy Board:-)
I also see how busy you have been with your quilt blocks. Love the quilted race track. So cute!!!
Have a safe and enjoyable trip. God Bless you all.

  9. I can’t believe Amelia is so big! And eating an apple with those sparkling teeth I spied. Is she a year yet? I remember it was about this time last year that she was due. I’m going to be a grandma again! #11 My #3 son and his wife got a surprise….lol. They each have a couple of kids (and he has 2 granddaughters), but this is the first for them together. My only worry is that he’s 49 and she’s 41. More genetic worries at that age. Of course, I was 37 when I had my surprise baby. I guess she had a stronger will than that IUD had power! And she turned out okay. Stubborn as can be, even at 32, but she was luckier than the older ones. She got to be herself more than the ones that I had when I was still VERY young, and had to prove to the world that I could do it.

Enjoy your trip! I can’t wait for the posts and pics!

  10. What a wonderful and busy time for you all. Congratulations to the graduate – and her parents too! Can’t wait to hear about your adventures in Sweden/Norway – you will have so much fun! And, YES, please give us a detailed blog about the busy board construction. My great-granddaughter just turned 6 months. This is a perfect project for her daddy to build. Now…I’m off to find that “Speedway” panel on the Internet. Love your blog – thanks for sharing with us 🙂
