Jelly Roll Cabin free quilt pattern
I’m excited to show you my version of Jelly Roll Cabin, a free Shortcut Quilt Pattern from Fat Quarter Shop! I love using precuts and this pattern was so quick and easy to make using one jelly roll of Botany by Alli K for Moda Fabrics plus additional yardage. This fabric collection is so naturally gorgeous and good!

Pattern details
The Jelly Roll Cabin pattern makes a beautiful quilt that is 66 1/2″ square. It’s the perfect size for a lap quilt or a picnic quilt. It also includes instructions for a crib and queen size quilt.
Each quilt block measures 18 1/2″ (unfinished) and is comprised of four log cabin quadrants. It reminds me of a window pane. I appreciate working with large quilt blocks like this; it makes the assembly process really fast and easy.
The fabric requirements are one jelly roll and yardage for the background and accent (shown as black in mine). Afterwards, you’ll have plenty of jelly roll pieces left to make a coordinating pillow (or two)!
A few tips
I cut all of my rectangles from the jelly roll 1/2″ longer than required. This gave me some wiggle room, and I was able to square up after each round of the cabin unit as I went along.
Stack all of the pieces next to your sewing machine. This makes it easy to chain piece each section. I did need to make sure there were no duplicate fabrics in the same cabin quadrant.
You will have many leftover pieces from the jelly roll. It’s enough to make a pillow or a table runner. I used mine to make a wider pieced border. My borders are 6″ wide and the resulting quilt measures 68″ square.
