Let’s kick off the start of this beautiful Fall season with a FREE Scrappy Leaf Block pattern! This quilt block is super easy to make and your scrap-loving heart will enjoy using all the Fall colors possible. I’ve written the instructions to include three sizes! You have your choice of 5″, 7.5″ or 10″ (finished) blocks so there are plenty of options to create just the right project.

There are lots of pieces to this Scrappy Leaf Block, but that’s what makes it sparkle! You won’t need any special tools or rulers, just lots of scraps. The cutting is easy, with just squares and rectangles. You’ll make half-square triangle units, pieced rectangles and a stem unit.

You can download the Scrappy Leaf Block pattern below. This is a free pattern and I’ve tried my best to make sure it is accurate. With that being said, it has not been tech edited or tested by others. Feel free to contact me if you find any inaccuracies.

You can make this block in any of the three sizes I’ve included. The 5″ size would make a great coaster or mug rug; the 7.5″ size is versatile enough for a table runner, wall hanging or small quilt. The 10″ size is big enough for a small pillow or make lots of them for any size quilt.

Three different sizes of the Scrappy Leaf Block pattern are included in this FREE pdf @ The Crafty Quilter.

The hardest part of making the Scrappy Leaf Block is picking out fabric and cutting all the pieces. Once the fabric is cut, you’ll make 6 HST units, 2 pieced rectangles and one stem unit. The image below shows the first set of steps.

Once all of the units are made, it’s a matter of arranging all of the pieces so you’re happy with the color placement. You’ll sew the pieces together into sections. The pattern includes a chart of the size each section should measure at this point. Finally, each section gets sewn together to complete the block!

  7. Julie, Fantastic leaf pattern, perfect for two table runners I am making right now. Two friends, sisters have retired and sold their house here in town after 25+ years and are moving to Grass Valley. In honor of all the local farmland memories I’m making them each a table runner. One is Barn Door and the other Rail Fence. These leaves will make perfect show on the flip side. Blessings, Dawn
