Top blog posts of 2025!

Now that I’ve finally moved on to the next calendar year (better late than never), I’d like to pay homage to 2025. Here, at my blog, it was the quietest of years for me. I didn’t produce as much content as years past, yet I felt like I was constantly working. Finding the balance between work and play is not always easy. Even so, I have five blog posts that are worth highlighting!

Here are my top five blog posts of 2025

5. Easy tips to make perfect sawtooth borders

Everything you need to know about sawtooth borders and how to make them successfully are here. This is a pieced border that can be tricky, but I’ve got some really helpful tips for you!

4. How to determine quilt backing & batting sizes

This blog post started with a reader question about why the backing and batting need to be larger than the quilt top. I expanded the answer to include how to determine the sizes of both. You’ll also find links to several tools to help calculate those sizes.

3. Introduction to the Orange Peel Sew Along

It appears I wasn’t the only one who wanted to make an orange peel quilt! This blog post was a popular one and I had over 2,000 readers join me for the sew along. This introduction blog post includes all of the links for each lesson which includes a wealth of information!

2. How to square up a quilt

This was another reader question (you guys come up with some good ones) and I was glad to give you some guidance. Squaring up a quilt is something we don’t often talk about, but it can be really important in the final finish of a quilt. I have lots of tips and photos that help make it easy.

#1. Jelly Roll Cabin free quilt pattern

The number one most viewed blog post of 2025 was the Jelly Roll Cabin free quilt pattern. This was a nice surprise as I loved making this quilt along with Fat Quarter Shop. This free pattern comes together SO quick and easy! The pattern is still available here and you can read all about it in my blog post here.

That’s a wrap for 2025! I have the best intentions to make 2026 even better! I plan on continuing to answer reader questions and come up with new projects, patterns and tutorials. As always, I appreciate your support and you following along on my quilting journey!

  1. Aloha Julie,
Your posts are my favorite of all the posts I have received over the years. The past few years, I have not done as much sewing or quilting as I was doing. My resolution this year is to finish a few of my UFOs (love your PDF to document what is there!), take a class for a new project – keeps the imagination working (!), and give myself a bit of grace when “life gets in the way”!
As I read your articles, admire your projects, and enjoy the stories and tales of your family, it gives me so much joy. This past year, I made 17 matching monogrammed pillowcases for our combined 5 children, 5 grandchildren, 5 in-laws/partners, and each other! Of course, I did not take time to photograph them but everyone had them and seemed to enjoy their personalized gift (and the goodies inside!).
Sending wishes to you and your family for a joyous and HEALTHY New Year!
    All the best,
    Melissa Egusa
