Two finished pouches and one finished quilt!
It’s been a productive week with two finished pouches and one finished quilt. I love being able to finish a project quickly and these pouches are fun and quick.
I belong to the Pouch Kit Club at Sew Lux Fabrics. Every month I receive a kit with everything I need to make a pouch, including fabric, interfacing, zipper, etc. I love having all the supplies together and ready to go.
I don’t always keep up with the monthly kits, so I’m a little behind. But I did finish two this past weekend. The first is this Ombre Heart Pouch. Isn’t it so cute?
These kits are also available as individual purchases – you don’t need to subscribe to a club. You can also purchase the pattern separately. And this is not an affiliate sales pitch. I’m not being compensated for this blog post. Usually I’ll get a few requests for more information about where I got my pattern or supplies. So, now you know!
The other kit I finished is the Goose Chase Pouch. It’s a little more modern and perhaps masculine? I love the size of this one. Perfect to hold a few quilting tools.
I love being able to use my personalized labels on these pouches. It’s easy and a nice addition, especially if it’s a gift.
I just got a new pouch kit in the mail today. I think I may have an idea for Christmas gifts this year!
My other finish is the Bee Hive Quilt which was part of the Sew Sampler subscription box from Fat Quarter Shop. I fell in love with the Pepper & Flax fabric collection by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. I knew I had to make this quilt.
The Bee Hive pattern is only available through a subscription. If you have that pattern, you might notice that I changed mine just a tiny bit. I added small corner triangles to each block using leftover scraps of 1 1/4″ squares. It creates a small diamond in the open background spaces.
My sister-in-law did the quilting for me. It’s so nice to have a member of the family with a longarm machine! I used minky for the back. I really had a tough time with the binding on this quilt. I will give you a separate blog post on my experience and how I would correct it (next time). Cooper has put it to the test, and he thinks everything turned out just perfect! But if you look closely, you can see the ripples along the edges. They weren’t there before I added the binding.
Speaking of kits, Craftsy is having a sale of up to 60% on kits and supplies this weekend! This would be a great time to stock up on supplies – kind of like back-to-school shopping.
This Sunday, I’ll be visiting Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, California for their Quilting in the Garden Show. It’s one of my favorites because it’s close by and the nursery is beautiful in all its Fall glory. They use large oak trees to hang a majority of the quilts from. Plus the nursery is blooming with color too. I’ll bring my camera and take lots of pictures to share with you. Below is a photo from 2016; you can visit this blog post to see more.
Happy Quilting!
Julie, your pouches, your quilt and of course, Charlie are great! The quilt show in the garden, how spectacular! The pictures are so inspiring and the colors, oh the wonderful colors! What a memorable day you should have visiting that show! Enjoy!
Love your post, the bags are so cute, and I have the quilt in to do list, I was wondering where you had your label’s made?
I love, love, love the quilt you made using the Corey Yoder fabric. How do I get the pattern and supplies? Fat quarter shop said that it was only available in the Sew Sampler box subscription. Love the little corners that you added.
Hello Julie, Such fabulous pouches that you have finished and posted for us to admire. I have never made any type of “pouch” but after seeing yours, I can see them as being a great gift and they would have so many variety of uses. I especially like the Ombre Heart Pouch. That darker grey fabric with the bright variety of fabrics is so fabulous, plus the quilting design is great. Your Bee Hive Quilt is lovely! All of the fabrics are just soft and comforting and were a fantastic choice for this quilt. With Cooper giving his approval and looking so comfortable, I know it is a winning quilt in every way. I had a friend who recently tried Minky for a special quilt and she finally gave up and set it aside until she felt like trying again. With all of her years in so many aspects of sewing, I know I will never attempt it. LOL. I look forward to your post about the binding! Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge, projects, sharing your honest opinions and tutorials plus, so much more! You have a magnificent weekend!!
I love those pouches! They’re so adorable. Did you use linen? The texture is just lovely.
I also have two pouches in progress from the same place. They opened up spots in their monthly program halfway through so I’m in for six months.
I also plan to go to Alden Lane to see the quilt show but cannot decide which day. There are lots of things going on in San Jose this weekend also – The quilt museum email mentioned that the streets are closed for a celebration and there’s lots of people demonstrating things it really sounded good
I really like the pouch and the quilt (also your puppy). Your colour choices are so nice
I love the addition of your triangle corners! They catch the eye and add a wonderful spark of whimsy. Congrats on this quilt and your two darling pouch finishes! Job well done. 🙂
Those pouches are adorable. Did you do fabric weaving on the hearts? The fabric is beautiful.
Hi Julie, Love the pouches. You are so talented! Thanks for the info on the Craftsy sale.
