June happenings

I hope your summer is off to a great start. I haven’t posted anything in a few weeks, so I thought it was time for a quick update. I’m having a mix of good summer vibes and some not so good computer related frustrations. Let’s start with the good stuff!

I’m working on a new quilt design and after my first “test run”, I’ve decided to simplify the design. I love the quilt block itself, especially the fact that it’s large (16″ square). I’m trying to work the pattern to be fat quarter friendly and include 3-4 quilt sizes. You can see one of my rows below. I’m using a few beloved Tilda fat quarters for this sample.

I’m itching to sew along with the latest Moda Blockheads projects. The weekly block instructions are free and started on May 28. I love this kind of piecing, but I’m afraid to overcommit. I know I’ve got too much on my plate as is it. I also signed up for 2025 Summer Block Party which started with the first block instructions yesterday. This is also free, but you need to sign up in order to get the instructions. I’m gathering my fabric and ready to get started.

I just finished up a small embroidery project. This came from the book, Cozy Stitches by Celeste Johnston. It’s such a great book with cute projects designed for the beginner. It has me itching to start another embroidery project!

At home, the weather has been beautiful and we’re spending lots of time in our backyard patio. We’re usually joined by our kitty, Zoe, who has adopted one of my older quilts as her own. It actually keeps her hair off the furniture, so it’s a win/win.

The grandkids are enjoying the freedom that a summer schedule brings. I’ll be visiting them in mid-July while my daughter is out of town so it might turn into “Grandma Camp” for a few days. I just ordered a weighted vest so I can get in better shape during my walks. I’m going to need it to keep up with this crew!

Below is a photo that my daughter recently sent when the kids decided to get dressed up on their own. I think it surprised my daughter to NOT see them covered in dirt or paint and with hair brushed and clean clothes on.

And now, the not so good news is my losing battle with technology. I’m trying to migrate from a PC to a Mac and it ain’t easy. I feel like every step I take has a roadblock and I’m having to reset passwords, update old software and purchase new ones. It’s enough to drive a person to drink. Is it 5:00 yet? Haha!

Other than that, things are great! I’m enjoying spending time at home with Mr. Crafty Quilter, going to a few baseball games, dinner in the city, the farmer’s market, and gardening.

I’ll be back to a normal blogging schedule soon (I hope). Thanks for being patient and enjoy each day of summer as best you can!

  1. I’m always eager to read any words of wisdom you have to impart to us. And your family is beautiful. Grandma Camp is going to be fun. Sorry about the computer woes. I’m in the same boat. My husband was my techie. Smart TV, computer, etc. Whenever I had a question, he would say “just push the button.” I was always nervous until he came to the rescue! Enjoy your projects and time with the kids. And, thank you.

  2. Sweet little kids. Enjoy them. Are they your only grands. I have 10. 5 of each and they are a total joy. I’m almost 80. October 7th. How time flies. Still quilting and knitting. Winter here. Best time of year to be creative

  3. Thanks for the update, Julie! It’s always good to hear from you and see what you’re working on. The block is great and the colors are lovely! Be well!

  4. Ah, switching from a PC to a Mac can be frustrating. First thing is think simple….Mac’s are so simple, PC are usually very over-thinking. Of course reading the user manual is a great help. Actually with the newer Mac’s I believe you can put what you want to transfer on a USB stick, and transfer files that way. Here’s a good link https://support.apple.com/en-us/102565. As far as software, not everything you had on a PC will necessarily work on a Mac….you may need to purchase the Mac version of the software. Check your passwords etc. before you start to transfer something, then you won’t have to find something you may have already removed. Good luck with you venture, hang in there, You CAN DO THIS. If all else fails go back for Apple help at the store.

  5. Thanks for the reminder on the Summer Block Party, I forgot I had signed up and missed the first block but went and retrieved it. If you need any help on the mac, feel free to email me. I will make sure you have my contact info. I did the switch awhile ago but happy to help. And, I do run parallels on my mac to run the Prostitcher program and sometimes EQ on it as a few of the programs play better in their native PC environment or don’t run at all on a mac.

    1. Julie, I just want to let you know I have missed you! No worries, a break is healthy and LIFE more or less gets in the way BUT that is okay. Blessings, girlfriend, enjoy every day with the surprises it holds♥️
