September in my sewing room

I’ve been busy in my sewing room this month, and I thought I’d share what I’ve been working on. As always, my “to do” list is much longer than my working hours can handle. I’ve been told that as a blogger and pattern designer I should only work on my own creations. That puts a big damper on my creative spirit, especially when there are so many fun projects and sew alongs going on! I can’t resist them all, so I’ll be sharing the one sew along I’ve given into and my current new pattern progress.

Sweater Weather Sampler

This is the third year of the Sweater Weather Sampler and my first time actually participating. This fall-themed sew along is hosted by the Nine Patch Quilt Collective. Nine designers have created a total of nine quilt blocks that are big, beautiful and cozy to create a sampler quilt that measures 60.5″ x 60.5″. As a Collective, they’ve decided that charging a small fee is the only sustainable way to keep the Sweater Weather Sampler going (totally worth it).

The sew along started on September 4th, with new block patterns being release each Thursday for nine weeks. I splurged and ordered a kit for this sampler, and I LOVE it! It contains gorgeous fabric from the Wildflower Wovens collection by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics.

I’ve completed the first three blocks so I’m happy that I’m staying on schedule. Each block measures 20″ finished. The first block is a “Little Leaf Block”, designed by Emily of Patchwork Revival. It was a fun and easy block to make.

Block number two is called “Pumpkin Plaid”, designed by Abby of Abby Maed. I love the addition of stars in the center of the pumpkin.

The third block is called “Forest Prism” designed by Dana of Carnelian Quilting. This block is made with improv piecing and it’s a beauty. Even though I like the look of this block, I decided to make a different one instead. I chose a favorite block from last year’s Sweater Weather Sampler to replace it. Even though I didn’t make the sampler last year, I had the pattern downloaded already. This is Sun Still by Ann of Crafty Moose Quilts. The block pattern is available for purchase here.

All three of my blocks put together are looking good so far. Our kitty, Zoe, appeared out of nowhere during my quick photo shoot. She likes them, too!

Sheridan, a new quilt pattern

It’s been a while since I’ve released a new quilt pattern. I’m so excited with my soon-to-be-released pattern, Sheridan! It’s fat quarter friendly and there are four quilt sizes available. The blocks are large at 18″ finished so it comes together quickly. For the cover quilt, I used Art Gallery Fabric from the Heirloom collection by Sharon Holland. It’s got that warm, vintage vibe going on.

The throw size quilt measures 52″ x 68″ and contains twelve blocks. I still need to add a small border and then I can start quilting.

The first version I made of Sheridan is square with nine blocks total. I didn’t want a square quilt, but I ran out of fabric so I had to stop there. I used fat quarters from a variety of Tilda fabric I had in my stash. I kept the same-color blocks in each row which gives it a very different look. I like it quite a lot, and I think it could make a sweet toddler quilt!

I’ve had the pattern tech edited and I’ve made the final edits to the pattern. I’m aiming for a release date of October 3rd! In the meantime, start thinking about fabric options or check what you have in your stash. I’m going to start another version using the Sun Drenched fabric collection by Sweetfire Road for Moda Fabrics. Kits will be available for this version at The Granary Quilt shop soon!

That’s all that’s going on in my sewing room for now. I’ll be juggling a few more projects in the next month, as well as teaching some classes at my local quilt shop. I wish I didn’t have to sleep at night – I could get so much more done!

Thanks for visiting. I hope you’re enjoying the changing of the seasons and finding time to be creative.
