My October works in progress

Like many of you, I have too many projects and not enough time to finish them all. I feel like that’s the curse of a creative and scattered person (like me). I am having fun, though! Let me show you my October works in progress.

Red & Cream BOM blocks

I have all the blocks completed for the Red & Cream Sampler BOM that I’m co-teaching at The Granary Quilt Shop. I’ll be putting them all together in the coming weeks and I can’t wait to see what the quilt top will look like. As you can see, I’m making mine with a blue and white color palette which fits my current home décor.

Piece & Quilt Sampler

I just finished the blocks for October in the Piece & Quilt Sampler quilt along with Fat Quarter Shop. Obviously, I have an affinity for sampler quilts – I love the diversity! I’ll share my tips and blocks next week, but here’s a peak for now.

Updating an old tutorial

One of my oldest (and most beloved) tutorials is the Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher. I’m updating this with a newer version that can be made as a square or an octagon. The original tutorial had only an octagon shape which is great, but it’s not fun to bind. I love having options, so this will be a big improvement. Below is my new, Fall version. Stay tuned for more!

Crochet project

I’ve recently finished this Half ‘n Half Infinity Scarf and now I just need the weather to get a little colder so I can wear it. I love how easy it was to make. It’s a great way to watch television at night and feel productive at the same time.

A quilt finish

My stack of quilts that are waiting for binding has been reduced by one! I made this quilt as part of a book hop for Just Two Charm Pack Quilts by Cheryl Brickey. This is the Abby & Katie quilt (which I modified a little) from the book. I used two charm packs of Blueberry Park from Robert Kaufman which had been in my stash for many years. It’s very bright and fun!

The backing fabric is so perfect for this project. I used Toadstool Tale Digital Cuddle by Shannon Fabrics. It’s cute and whimsical and so very soft! My sister in law did the quilting and she picked the cutest pattern to match the backing. You can get more details about this quilt and book in my original blog post here.

That’s all for now. I’m making this a quick post since we’re going for a short road trip tomorrow morning and I need to get ready. Happy Friday! Have a great weekend.

  4. Good Morning Julie, Love your “A Quilt Finish” quilt. This has become my favorite kind of quilt. “Simple” to the eye, bright, cheerful, fresh colors. Such a delight. I’m on a search for the book Your opening sentence caught my eye, “too many projects and not enough time.” Yikes, sounds like me. I just said to a friend, I’m thinking family Christmas gifts or clean out my sewing room. I need to finish projects or get rid of stuff. It’s making me goofy but all in a good way Enjoy your time away. My husband and I recently returned home from a photography adventure in CO, enjoyed the gorgeous Fall colors. Have fun, safe travels. 5. Julie,
The first thing that caught my eye this morning was the picture of your block for your Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher! And I think the quilting pattern your sister-in-law picked is adorable. Have a wonderful trip.

  6. I love your new version of the Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher! I’ve made the original several times as gifts and for myself. I’ll definitely be trying this one out – I have some Christmas fabric . . . . . . .
