My tutorials, made by you
I love sharing tutorials for small projects and quilts. What I love even more is when you send me photos of a project you made using one of those tutorials. So, today I’m sharing some of my tutorials, made by you!
I have a file on my computer titled “blog reader makes” and I’ve been adding emails and photos to it for years. I’m so happy to finally showcase them here. I have them categorized by project type such as wall hangings, table runners, etc. I’ve included the maker’s first name and a link to the tutorial they used. I hope you enjoy these lovely projects!
Table Runners
Nordic Star
The Nordic Star Table Runner may be my most popular tutorial. I love it because it’s fast to make and it looks beautiful on any table. I’ve wanted to make another one for so long. I just can’t fit it into my schedule.
Below is the Nordic Star Table Runner made by Pamela D. What I love about this color scheme is the versatility. It works for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and most Patriotic holidays.
The next Nordic Star Table Runner was made by Malinda H. It looks as though she made hers longer by adding another block. I love this one too, and those blues are my colors!
I just love it when you guys take the ball and run with it. That’s what Pat did with her square quilt version. The alternating color blocks are perfect and it makes a stunning quilt
Christmas Holly Table Runner
This next project is from Christmas in July series from 2013 and features my Christmas Holly Table Runner tutorial. It uses a mini charm pack for the squares, background fabric and jumbo ric rac. You can add applique to fit any holiday.
The photo, below, is a beautiful version made by Monica K. The addition of the machine embroidered snowmen at both ends takes this one over the top!
Pinwheel Stars Table Runner
Another great project for the holidays is the Pinwheel Stars Table Runner. The original tutorial includes instructions for placemats and the table runner. For my version, below, I challenged myself to get all of those stripes to face the same direction. Whew!
The one below, made by Nicola K., tugs at my heart with those paw prints in between the blocks! So sweet and personalized.
Spring Petals Table Topper
Quite a few years ago, I did a quilt along for the Spring Petals Table Topper and many of you participated. I think I made three of my own!
Just recently I received an email and photo from Kitty S. with her finished table topper. I’m so glad to see this project in those beautiful fabrics!
Wall Hangings
Christmas Tree Wall Hanging
The Christmas Tree Wall Hanging tutorial was part of my Christmas Once A Month Series. I wanted to make something larger for the wall and I loved the combination of stars surrounding a simple appliqued center.
The photo, below, is another one from Nicola K. who used paw prints very strategically in place of two circles to form the Christmas tree. AND, she turned it into an advent calendar with the center of each star block representing a day (or two). Very clever!
Patchwork Peter Rabbit
One of my favorite Spring decorations is my Patchwork Peter Rabbit wall hanging. It’s one of my earlier tutorials and it still makes me smile. My original version, was inspired by my daughter’s artwork from preschool. I used a mini charm pack for the rabbit shape and Cuddle Dimple plush fabric for the cotton tail. It measures 18″ x 20″.
The wall hanging below, made by Paula C., is so cute! I love how she added the sun circle and the additional borders to make it bigger.
Leanne from Podunk Pretties made her bunnies multiply with a larger quilt full of Patchwork Peter Rabbits! She simplified the applique and surrounded each with a nice frame. This would be so sweet as a baby quilt.
Spring is for the Birds
More recently, I shared my Spring Is For The Birds wall hanging as a free pattern. It has a nice combination of piecing and applique.
I adore this version made by Carol B. The quilting is fantastic and the striped binding really adds some fun.
Hot Air Balloon Mini Quilt
In 2015, I was asked to participate in a Blog Hop to celebrate Jaftex’s 85th anniversary. I was sent a fat quarter bundle to use in a design of my choice. This led to a lap-size quilt with a hot air balloon theme. I also wanted to make a smaller version for granddaughter, Amelia, and the Hot Air Balloon Mini Quilt tutorial was born. You can see them both below.
The mini quilt shown below was made by Maryanne and it’s so bright and cheerful. I especially love how she added that famous Dr. Seuss phrase!
Smaller Projects
Poinsettia Pillow
I saw a beautiful poinsettia pillow in a Pottery Barn catalog and I knew I could make one for myself. Since it fit in perfectly with my Christmas Once A Month series, I turned it into the Poinsettia Pillow tutorial.
Gina made her pillow with white poinsettia petals and the gingham background fabric sets it off perfectly. Well done!
After seeing Gina’s, I had to make another one with white petals. Below are both of my versions.
Quilt blocks
I love making up quilt blocks and sharing them here. One of my recent ones is called Golden Peaks and I offered it as a free pattern. I also showed how you can rotate the units to make a different looking block.
Tina H. had fun with this and sent me a photo comparing her two blocks with rotated corner units. Super cute and fun!
Another quilt block that I shared is Vintage Hearts. This one also has instructions that can be downloaded. I love incorporating hearts into my quilts, and this block is perfect for that.
Pat made two versions that are both so sweet. I love the addition of the smaller heart in the center of the 9-patch.
My original versions for Golden Peaks and Vintage Hearts are shown below.
Note: I wasn’t able to feature all of the project photos that have been sent to me. I’ve changed email providers (twice) and some of them got lost in the transition. You’re welcome to email them to me again and I’ll feature them in a future blog post.
I hope you enjoyed that little parade of my tutorials made by you! It brings me so much joy to see you use my instructions to create your own unique projects.
Happy quilting!

It was fun to see these projects. The Dr Seuss phrase was appropriate as I made it for a friend who for years was part of the “ground crew” for a hot air balloon pilot….traveling to lots of shows.
How fun to see all the different color choices and design decisions! Thank you for sharing these.
Love them all! Everyone did a beautiful job.
Lovely projects!
